Job Description

The Electromechanical Technicians will carry out overhaul of AC and DC motors in a workshop environment, including dismantling, inspection, cleaning, bearing replacement, reassembly, and assistance with rewinding activities. The role includes conducting basic electrical tests such as insulation resistance and continuity, supporting noload/run tests, and completing required overhaul documentation in line with safety standards and workshop procedures. This scope is limited to motor overhaul activities only.

Motor Overhaul & Refurbishment

  • Carry out complete overhaul of AC and DC motors in a workshop environment as per approved procedures.
  • Perform safe dismantling and assembly of motors, including rotors, stators, bearings, end shields, and cooling components.
  • Clean motor components using approved methods (chemical / mechanical) prior to inspection and reassembly.
  • Inspect and assess bearings, shafts, rotors, stators, commutators (DC motors), slip rings, and cooling fans for wear or damage.

Electrical Inspection & Testing

  • Conduct insulation resistance (IR) testing, continuity checks, and winding resistance measurements before and after overhaul.
  • Identify common motor faults such as insulation deterioration, overheating marks, bearing failures, and mechanical imbalance.
  • Assist in rewinding activities, including insulation preparation, slot cleaning, varnishing support, and postrewind checks.
  • Record test results and report abnormalities to senior technicians or supervisors.

Mechanical Work During Overhaul

  • Perform bearing removal and installation, including heating and fitting methods under supervision.
  • Carry out shaft alignment checks, runout measurement, and balancing support (as applicable).
  • Ensure correct reassembly with proper clearances, torque tightening, and alignment of components.

Reassembly, Testing & Handover

  • Support reassembly of motors according to drawings, manuals, and standard overhaul practices.
  • Assist in noload and trial run tests to verify rotation, vibration, noise, and temperature.
  • Ensure motors are fit for final inspection and site dispatch after overhaul completion.

Safety & Workshop Compliance

  • Follow electrical and mechanical safety practices, LOTO requirements (where applicable), and workshop SOPs.
  • Use appropriate PPE, tools, lifting equipment, and handling methods during overhaul activities.
  • Maintain good housekeeping standards within the overhaul workshop.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Complete overhaul checklists, job cards, and test reports accurately.
  • Update motor history records and highlight repeat failures or improvement recommendations.
  • Assist in preparation of documentation for QC checks and audits.

Education & Experience

  • ITI (Electrician) or equivalent technical qualification is required.
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of handson experience in AC and DC motor overhaul within a workshop or industrial environment.
  • Proven experience in motor dismantling, inspection, cleaning, and reassembly.
  • Handson knowledge of bearing removal and replacement and mechanical checks.
  • Ability to perform basic electrical tests, including insulation resistance (IR) and continuity testing.
  • Experience supporting motor rewinding activities and noload / trial runs under supervision.
  • Familiarity with workshop safety practices, SOPs, and documentation requirements.
