Job Description

This purpose of this role is to provide the required support for all International Carriers/links, and all the Cable Landing stations activities (3 Locations in UAE). This includes international carriers/links service fault management, international carriers/links service change review, implementation, validation, daily CLS equipment's inspection and maintaining our Submarine systems availability (SMW5, EIG, Falcon etc.) that are carrying the international traffic from the Cable landing stations towards our remote POP under an agreed SLA.

Key Accountabilities

  • Maintaining and Control all Submarine systems/networks through (EIG, SMW5, etc.) for all cable landing stations end to end.
  • Perform the required daily Hands and Eyes activities (24*7) for all the Cable Landing Stations equipment's (3 locations in UAE). This includes both Marine and Terrestrial International links for any fault or proactive measures including the PFE readings observation for any abnormality in subsea segment.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot any subsea cable fault and coordinate to identify the subsea fault location including cable cuts and shunt faults in coordination with Cable ships during the subsea fault repair.
  • Facilitate in both hardware and software upgrades for all submarine equipment's (EIG, SMW5, etc..) installed in all cable landing stations.
  • Coordinating with Installation, Testing & Commissioning for the Submarine Network or Subsea Network new expansion Projects through cable system providers (EIG, SMW5, etc.).
  • Day-to-day incident and planned work handling related to international carrier services and lead the end-to-end testing with different teams till resolution.
  • Track all International carrier planned work activities and provide the required technical assessment and maintain the calendar/tracker for all activities.
  • Perform the required Submarine Repeater and Branching Units health check for all landing stations.
  • Perform fibre patching for any restoration/migration, new provisioning, transmission tests and loop testing whenever required.
  • Coordination with different teams for all new International Carrier projects including links capacity upgrade, equipment aggregation/new installations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in Telecommunications Engineering or Electronics and Communications Engineering or equivalent diploma in the same or related field of study.

Experience:

  • Minimum 8 years of experience working as ITMC and/or cable landing station engineer.
  • Deep understanding of Transmission technologies (OTN, OSN, SDH Optic) and subsea cable systems/equipment's.
  • Good understanding of IP technologies.
  • Fluent in written and verbal English.

Skills

  • Excellent knowledge on subsea cable system and equipment's (PFE, SLTE, SIE).
  • Deep understanding of transmission technologies (OTN, OSN, SDH Optic, DWDM)
  • Hands-on experience in using test equipment (E1 Tester, SDH Analyser, GE Tester, Power Meter, COTDR)
  • Familiar with Huawei, Nokia, Ciena transmission, Tyco, Infinera and ASN equipment.
  • Very good command in using MS Office (Excel, Visio, Power point, Project).
  • Experience in using trouble-ticketing systems
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills
