Job Description

Job Summary

Khatib & Alami is seeking an experienced Wet Utilities Engineer to join our Consultancy Supervision Team in Abu Dhabi. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising and monitoring wet utility works associated with major infrastructure projects, ensuring that construction activities comply with approved drawings, project specifications, contract requirements, authority regulations, and quality standards.

The role requires strong technical knowledge of water, sewerage, irrigation, stormwater, and associated utility networks, together with effective coordination with Contractors, Consultants, Clients, and relevant Abu Dhabi authorities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and monitor wet utility construction activities in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, contract requirements, and applicable authority standards.
  • Review shop drawings, material submittals, method statements, inspection requests, and other technical documentation related to wet utility works.
  • Inspect and monitor the installation of water supply, sewerage, stormwater drainage, irrigation, and associated utility networks.
  • Ensure that utility works are executed in accordance with approved designs, project specifications, and the Design Engineer's intent.
  • Review construction activities for pipelines, chambers, manholes, valve chambers, pumping systems, connections, and related infrastructure works.
  • Verify pipe materials, fittings, valves, chambers, and other utility components against approved material submittals and project requirements.
  • Coordinate with the Design Engineer and Contractor to resolve design discrepancies, technical queries, and site-related issues.
  • Review and respond to technical submittals, RFIs, inspection requests, and method statements within the scope of wet utilities.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and identify defective, incomplete, or non-conforming works.
  • Support the issuance, monitoring, and close-out of Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and site observations.
  • Monitor testing activities, including pressure testing, leakage testing, CCTV inspection, flushing, disinfection, and other applicable utility testing requirements.
  • Ensure proper coordination between wet utilities and other infrastructure works, including roads, drainage, electrical, street lighting, landscaping, and existing utility networks.
  • Monitor utility protection, diversion, connection, and tie-in works, particularly where existing services are affected.
  • Coordinate with Contractors and relevant stakeholders to ensure timely approvals, inspections, testing, and connections.
  • Participate in progress meetings, technical coordination meetings, and site meetings as required.
  • Monitor construction progress and highlight technical issues, risks, potential delays, and required corrective actions.
  • Review as-built drawings and documentation to ensure they accurately reflect completed works.
  • Participate in snagging, testing and commissioning, project close-out, and final handover activities.
  • Prepare daily and weekly reports covering construction progress, inspections, technical issues, quality concerns, and recommendations.
  • Liaise with Clients, Contractors, Design Teams, and relevant Abu Dhabi authorities and utility stakeholders to facilitate project delivery.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to Inspectors and other site team members.
  • Ensure all wet utility works are executed in accordance with applicable Abu Dhabi authority requirements, project specifications, health and safety requirements, and quality standards.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a relevant engineering discipline from a recognized university.
  • Minimum 12 years of relevant professional experience, with substantial experience in wet utilities and infrastructure projects.
  • Previous experience in UAE consultancy supervision is required.
  • Strong experience in the supervision of water supply, sewerage, stormwater drainage, irrigation, and associated wet utility networks.
  • Experience with major infrastructure, roads, utilities, or urban development projects in Abu Dhabi is preferred.
  • Good knowledge of relevant Abu Dhabi authority requirements, specifications, standards, and approval procedures.
  • Experience in reviewing shop drawings, material submittals, method statements, RFIs, inspection requests, and as-built documentation.
  • Knowledge of utility testing, commissioning, tie-in, diversion, and connection procedures.
  • Strong coordination and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with Contractors, Clients, Design Teams, and other stakeholders.
  • Good understanding of construction quality control and site supervision procedures.
  • Ability to identify technical issues and provide practical engineering solutions.
  • Membership in a recognized professional engineering institution is desirable.
