Job Description
Role Description The Environmental Health & Safety Specialist at WIA – NL is a part-time, remote role focused on ensuring that all organizational activities and events adhere to relevant environmental, health, and safety standards. Day-to-day responsibilities include assessing potential environmental and occupational health risks associated with events and operations, providing guidance on best practices, and developing or updating EHS policies and procedures. The specialist will monitor compliance with applicable regulations, advise on safe working practices for remote and in-person activities, and collaborate with event organizers and leadership to promote a safe and sustainable environment. This role also involves clear documentation, reporting on EHS metrics, and recommending improvements that support the well-being of the WIA – NL community.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated expertise in Environmental Health and Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) practices, including risk assessment and mitigation.
- Knowledge of Environmental Compliance, with the ability to interpret and apply relevant regulations and standards to organizational activities.
- Experience in Occupational Health, including ergonomic and psychosocial risk awareness for both remote and in-person work settings.
- Strong Communication skills, with the ability to convey EHS requirements and recommendations clearly to diverse stakeholders.
- Relevant education in environmental science, occupational health and safety, public health, or a related field.
- Experience developing and implementing EHS policies, procedures, and training materials.
- Ability to work independently in a remote setting, manage multiple priorities, and collaborate effectively across time zones.
- Familiarity with event safety planning and sustainability initiatives is an advantage
