Job Purpose:
The Estimation Engineer (Mechanical) is responsible for preparing accurate, technically robust cost estimates for Al Masaood Bergum's modular, structural, and engineered projects.
The role brings mechanical engineering expertise into the estimation function to support complex project scopes, including steel structures, MEP elements, modular systems, and integrated construction packages. The position plays a critical role in ensuring bid accuracy, technical compliance, and commercial competitiveness.
Core Responsibilities:
Technical Estimation & Costing:
- Prepare detailed cost estimates based on drawings, specifications, BOQs, and scope documents.
- Perform quantity take-offs for mechanical works, steel fabrication, structural components, and MEP-related items.
- Evaluate technical requirements and convert them into accurate material, labour, and equipment costs.
- Develop estimates for complex and non-standard project scopes, beyond generator enclosures.
Engineering & Technical Review
- Study and interpret mechanical drawings, technical specifications, and project requirements.
- Support the estimation team with engineering judgment, assumptions, and constructability inputs.
- Propose technical clarifications or assumptions where project information is incomplete or ambiguous.
- Coordinate with Engineering and Design teams to ensure alignment between technical scope and cost estimates.
Tendering & Pre-Contracts Support
- Review enquiry documents, tender requirements, and commercial conditions.
- Support preparation of technical inputs for tenders and proposals.
- Liaise with Sales, Engineering, and Project teams to ensure tender submissions are technically compliant and commercially viable.
- Participate in tender clarification meetings when required.
Vendor & Subcontractor Coordination
- Identify and obtain quotations from suppliers and subcontractors for mechanical, steel, and MEP-related works.
- Technically evaluate vendor and subcontractor offers to ensure scope completeness and compliance.
- Support cost benchmarking and validation of subcontractor pricing.
Site & Operational Coordination
- Arrange or attend site visits to verify project conditions and assumptions.
- Coordinate with operations to understand execution methodologies and reflect them accurately in estimates.
Governance & Quality
- Ensure all estimates comply with company quality systems, procedures, and approval frameworks.
- Maintain proper documentation, assumptions, and backup for all estimates prepared.
- Support continuous improvement of estimation processes and tools.
Background & Experience (years)
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (mandatory).
- 6-8 years of experience in estimation, pre-contracts, or cost engineering roles.
- A good working knowledge of local and international standards, rules and regulations including with Relevant Local Authorities compliance i.e. Civil Defense requirements, DM, DEWA/ADWEA, ASHRAE, Green Building)
- Proficient in using design software (i.e. AutoCAD, BIM, HAP) and ERP systems
- Good knowledge for the design and pricing of HVAC systems
- Basic knowledge for the designs for IT and Security systems
- Basic knowledge of the designs for Fire Alarm & Fire Fighting systems
