This JD is for a Facilities & Operations Engineer and Laboratory Management role sits within an advanced aerospace and propulsion research center, it isn't a standard, corporate facility management desk job. It is a highly dynamic, hands-on role that blends facility engineering, laboratory operations, heavy machinery maintenance, and strict health, safety, and environmental (HSE) compliance.
Responsibilities
1. Core Pillars of Responsibility
Facilities Operations & Site Readiness
The primary objective here is keeping the research labs running without downtime.
Daily Continuity: You will oversee day-to-day operations across multiple labs and facilities, ensuring they are constantly operational and prepared for upcoming tests.
Scheduling & Preparation: You will coordinate lab setups based on specific testing schedules and engineering plans, acting as the bridge between the research teams and the physical space.
2.Equipment & Machinery Operation
This role goes beyond building utilities (like AC and power) to involve actual R&D and manufacturing machinery.
Hands-on Operation: Safely and efficiently operating facility, manufacturing, and lab equipment.
Commissioning: Assisting with the installation, testing, and official sign-off (commissioning) of new, high-tech machinery entering the facility.
3.Maintenance & Monitoring
To prevent costly research interruptions, a rigorous maintenance strategy is required.
Proactive & Reactive Care: Performing both preventive (scheduled) and corrective (fix-it-when-it-breaks) maintenance.
Data Logging & Vendor Management: Monitoring equipment health, maintaining meticulous logs, and coordinating directly with external vendors for complex repairs or specialized servicing.
4.HSE Compliance & Safety (Crucial Element)
Because propulsion and space research often involve hazardous materials, high pressures, and high-voltage systems, safety is heavily emphasized.
Permits & Risks: You will be responsible for ensuring Method Statements and Risk Assessments (MSRA) are completed and enforcing the Permit-to-Work (PTW) systems before any hazardous task begins.
Audits: Working closely with the HSE Manager to conduct safety inspections and support formal audits.
5.Training, Support & Coordination
You aren't just managing machines; you are managing the people who use them.
Onboarding & Training: Providing safety and operational training to new lab users and researchers.
Stakeholder Alignment: Serving as the central point of contact to update management, support planning logistics, and provide operational reports.
Required skills
•Years of Experience: 3 to 7 years of relevant experience in facility operations, lab environments, or maintenance.
•Manufacturing & R&D Edge: Having manufacturing knowledge is highly preferred, as is prior experience working in R&D or rigorous industrial testing environments.
•Hard Safety Skills: Proven, practical experience handling MSRA and PTW systems.
•Software/Systems: Familiarity with asset/maintenance management systems (like CMMS software) and HSE reporting tools.
