Job Description

Job Summary

The Farm Manager is responsible for the comprehensive management and operation of agricultural farms managed by MISS DANAH Contracting Establishment, comprising greenhouses production units and open-field cultivation areas. The role covers the full cycle of farm activity — from strategic planning, crop programming, and resource management to hands-on operational supervision, cost control, financial reporting, and compliance. The Farm Manager ensures that agricultural targets are met efficiently and profitably, applying best agronomic practices while managing the farm's human, material, and financial resources.

Key Responsibilities

1. Agricultural Planning & Crop Management

  • Develop seasonal and annual crop production plans for both greenhouse and open-field areas, including crop selection, planting schedules, and harvest projections.
  • Implement integrated crop management programs (ICM) covering soil preparation, fertilization, irrigation scheduling, pest and disease control, and post-harvest handling.
  • Monitor crop growth stages and conduct regular field inspections to identify and promptly address agronomic issues.
  • Maintain up-to-date production records for all crops including planting dates, inputs applied, yields, and quality assessments.
  • Coordinate with technical specialists and agronomists to introduce improved varieties and updated cultivation techniques.
  • Oversee the management of greenhouses including environmental controls (temperature, humidity, ventilation), hydroponics or substrate systems, and irrigation infrastructure.

2. Operations Management & Execution

  • Supervise and direct all daily farm operations, ensuring tasks are executed on schedule and to the required quality standard.
  • Plan and coordinate farm machinery and equipment usage, maintenance schedules, and repairs in coordination with the maintenance team.
  • Manage irrigation systems (drip, sprinkler, surface) and ensure optimal water use efficiency across all cultivation areas.
  • Oversee the application of inputs (seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, amendments) and ensure correct handling, storage, and disposal in line with health and safety regulations.
  • Coordinate planting, harvesting, grading, packing, and dispatch operations to meet delivery commitments.
  • Implement and enforce biosecurity and Good Agricultural Practice (GAP) protocols across all farm activities.

3. Human Resources & Team Management

  • Recruit, onboard, train, and evaluate farm workers, supervisors, and technical staff.
  • Prepare work schedules and task assignments for all farm personnel, ensuring adequate coverage during peak seasons.
  • Conduct regular performance appraisals and provide coaching and corrective guidance as needed.
  • Foster a positive, safety-conscious team culture and ensure compliance with occupational health and safety (OHS) standards.
  • Coordinate with HR on labor contracts, attendance records, and workforce planning.

4. Financial Management, Costing & Accounting

  • Prepare the annual farm budget in collaboration with management, covering all operational expenditures, capital items, and revenue projections.
  • Monitor and control all farm expenditures against approved budgets; analyze variances and implement corrective measures.
  • Maintain detailed cost records per crop cycle, production unit, and activity type to enable accurate cost-of-production analysis.
  • Oversee procurement of all farm inputs and services, ensuring competitive pricing, quality verification, and proper documentation.
  • Coordinate with the accounts department on invoicing, payment processing, and financial reporting.
  • Prepare regular financial and production performance reports for senior management, including monthly P&L summaries by cost center.
  • Manage fixed asset records for farm equipment and infrastructure and coordinate depreciation schedules with finance.

5. Compliance, Safety & Environmental Stewardship

  • Ensure full compliance with Saudi Arabian agricultural regulations, Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture (MEWA) guidelines, and municipal requirements.
  • Implement and monitor the farm's environmental management plan, including waste reduction, water recycling, and responsible chemical use.
  • Maintain all regulatory licenses, permits, and certifications required for farm operations.
  • Lead accident and incident investigations and implement preventive measures to eliminate recurrence.

6. Reporting & Communication

  • Produce weekly operational status reports, monthly production and financial. summaries, and seasonal performance reviews.
  • Represent the farm in meetings with suppliers, customers, government inspectors, and company management.
  • Coordinate with the sales and marketing team to align production output with market demand and pricing strategy.

Qualifications & Requirements

1. Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Sciences, Agronomy, Horticulture, or related field. Master's degree is an advantage.

2. Experience

  • Minimum 8 years of progressive farm management experience, with at least 3 years managing greenhouse and open-field operations simultaneously.

3. Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of crop agronomy, irrigation systems, pest & disease management, and protected agriculture.

4. Financial Skills

  • Proven ability to prepare and manage farm budgets, cost accounts, and financial reports.

5. IT Skills

  • Proficiency in farm management software, MS Office (Excel, Word), and ERP systems.

6. Language

  • Arabic (native);
  • English (professional working proficiency).

7. Other

  • Valid Saudi driving license. Ability to work on-site under varying climatic conditions.
