Job Description

The Fashion Design Workshop Supervisor is responsible for the efficient operation, maintenance, and supervision of the fashion design workshop and its associated facilities. The role includes guiding students in the practical realization of their designs, ensuring proper use of equipment, and maintaining a professional, safe, and inspiring workshop environment.

The ideal candidate is a technically skilled professional with strong experience in tailoring, garment production, pattern development, and the full sample-to-product workflow. They must demonstrate hands-on expertise, proactive problem-solving, and the ability to support fashion design students across all phases of project development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operation, organization, and maintenance of the fashion design workshop and its equipment with the support of the workshop technician.
  • Ensure safe, responsible, and efficient use of all workshop tools, sewing machines, iron machines, and pressing station.
  • Coordinate the procurement, inventory, and maintenance of workshop materials, tools, and consumables with the head of workshops and the purchasing team.
  • Supervise the workshop license courses, develop its curriculum, and maintain related documentation.
  • Ensure that the workshop environment supports creative exploration while maintaining safety and professionalism.
  • Support students in translating their designs into physical prototypes, garments, and final projects.
  • Manage all steps of the garment production workflow, from pattern development and sample creation to the finished product.
  • Provide hands-on guidance in sewing, garment construction, cutting techniques, and finishing methods.
  • Demonstrate and instruct students in pattern cutting and development, draping, and sewing techniques.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve production challenges, technical issues, and workflow bottlenecks.
  • Assist faculty members in delivering practical sessions, workshops, and technical demonstrations.
  • Collaborate closely with the academic staff, workshops supervisors and technicians, and administrative teams.
  • Support international cooperation activities and institutional collaborations when relevant.
  • Support the preparation and execution of design exhibitions, showcases, and department events held on campus or at external venues.

Job Requirements

  • Completed professional training in tailoring, garment technology, costume design, sewing, or related technical fields.
  • Proven experience in garment production, fashion workshops, ateliers, or academic studios.
  • Experience supervising a fashion workshop, model studio, or production facility is highly desirable.
  • Strong expertise in pattern cutting, sewing, garment construction, and sample development.
  • Hands-on experience in maintaining, troubleshooting, and operating sewing machines, overlock machines, and ironing systems.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard fashion production software such as CLO3D, Gerber AccuMark, or similar.
  • Familiarity with analog and digital cutting methodologies.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to support and guide students.
  • Team-oriented mindset and interest in working in an international academic environment.
  • High level of organization, responsibility, and proactive problem-solving.
  • Good command of English is advantageous due to the university's English-based instruction.
