Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Field Network Engineer. The role involves on-site deployment, troubleshooting, and maintenance of enterprise and industrial network infrastructure. The ideal candidate has strong hands-on field experience, can work independently at customer sites, and is comfortable supporting both IT and industrial networking environments.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Network Deployment & Installation
- Install, configure, and test network devices including switches, routers, wireless access points, firewalls, and industrial networking equipment.
- Perform on-site fiber and copper cabling, patching, labeling, and physical network documentation.
- Support installation of industrial wireless systems, including outdoor APs, leaky feeder systems, CURWB gateways, and mesh networks.
- Validate connectivity between IDFs, BDFs, core rooms, and datacenters.
2. Troubleshooting & Support
- Perform on-site troubleshooting of Layer 1/2/3 issues, including cabling faults, VLAN misconfigurations, port-security, routing, wireless interference, and device failures.
- Use diagnostic tools such as Fluke testers, spectrum analyzers, Wi-Fi heatmaps, network scanners, and packet captures.
- Respond to incidents according to SLA and escalate when required.
3. Network Maintenance
- Conduct preventive maintenance and health checks on network equipment.
- Apply basic firmware upgrades, backups, and configuration sync under guidance of senior engineers.
- Replace faulty hardware and ensure RMA processes are followed.
4. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate site documentation including rack layouts, port maps, cable diagrams, device inventory, and change logs.
- Create field reports summarizing work completed, findings, and recommendations.
5. Collaboration
- Work closely with Network Architects, NOC teams, OT/IT operations, and vendors.
- Support project teams during new site rollouts, network expansions, and technology upgrades.
- Provide on-site guidance to subcontractors and cabling teams.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
OR equivalent hands-on field experience.
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP, LAN/WAN, switching, routing, and Wi-Fi fundamentals.
- Experience with enterprise or industrial networking (Cisco preferred).
- Knowledge of VLANs, STP, EtherChannel, DHCP, DNS, NAT, ACLs.
- Familiarity with wireless technologies (802.11 standards, surveys, AP mounting).
- Experience with field tools: Fluke, OTDR, cable testers, spectrum analyzers.
- Ability to read and follow network diagrams, rack elevations, and layout drawings.
Nice to Have:
- Cisco CCNA/CCNP or equivalent certifications.
- Basic understanding of datacenter networking (VLANs, LACP, VRF, VXLAN-ACI concepts).
- Knowledge of ITIL environments for incident/change management.
- Experience in manufacturing/industrial environments (assembly lines, SCADA, PLC, AGVs).
