We are seeking an experienced Field Slurry Engineer (610 years experience) to support a remote industrial waste slurrification & reinjection project in Saudi Arabia.
Position Overview: The Field Slurry Engineer is responsible for slurry conditioning strategy, process control, and supervision of personnel involved in mixing, transfers, tank operations, and solids handling up to pre-injection readiness.
Key Responsibilities:
Slurry System Control and Optimization:
- Lead slurry preparation, conditioning, and low-pressure transfer activities from waste receipt through pre-injection readiness.
- Define and maintain slurry targets (density, solids loading, rheology/gel strength, suspension stability) in line with site procedure and subsurface requirements.
- Engineer practical mixing workflows (batch and continuous logic where applicable), including recirculation loops and tank sequencing to prevent dead zones and solids accumulation.
- Optimize suspension and settling control through agitation / jetting /recirculation settings (practical field tuning).
- Troubleshoot and correct: solids dropout/settling, pumpability limitations, line plugging/high friction losses, and shaker/grinder inefficiencies.
Chemicals and Compatibility:
- Select and manage the chemical dosing strategy within the approved program (examples include dispersants, surfactants, biocides, and scavengers).
- Ensure chemical compatibility with the slurry system and manage risks such as corrosion or sour conditions if relevant.
Supervision, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Training:
- Supervise and coach Junior Slurry Engineers and operators on tank discipline, sampling, safe handling, and adherence to procedures.
- Develop and maintain simple SOPs/checklists for batching, mixing, recirculation, grinding integration, and transfer.
- Train operations personnel on fluid handling best practices, sampling discipline, and troubleshooting playbooks.
Monitoring, Reporting, and Continuous Improvement:
- Maintain operational records: fluid checks, conditioning logs, shift performance notes, and exceptions.
- Track and report key metrics: solids content trend, density trend, chemical usage, downtime causes related to slurry quality.
- Recommend improvements based on operational data and observed bottlenecks.
Injection Interface (advisory not pumping operations):
- Coordinate closely with Pumping Field Engineer during pumping windows (attendance + advisory).
- Provide advisory input on formation response based on subsurface guidance.
- Recommend stopping injection if formation response is poor or subsurface limits are approached, through the agreed escalation protocol.
Qualification:
- Engineering degree (petroleum/chemical/mechanical/process or related).
- Experience of 6 to10 years in mud engineering, drilling fluids, slurry systems, or comparable field fluid-processing operations.
- Direct exposure / experience to CRI / slurry reinjection / cuttings reinjection is mandatory.
- Strong troubleshooting capability across tanks, shakers, grinders (if used), low-pressure transfer systems and ability to maintain slurry targets under real field constraints.
- Proven experience with high-solids slurry systems, contaminated waste streams, or NORM handling (as applicable).
- Experience with mixing systems, mud plant operations, and tank modifications to reduce dead zones/settling.
- Experience supervising field personnel and directing tank operations and transfers.
- Comfortable working in remote industrial field environment in KSA with strong HSE discipline.
- Middle East/GCC field exposure is a plus.
