The Finance Manager is responsible for running the company's finance function. This includes financial planning, budgeting, reporting, and ensuring accurate accounting and controls.
The role works closely with leadership and manages the relationship with the outsourced finance operations team.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Planning, Budgeting and Forecasting
- Build and maintain the company's financial model
- Lead annual budgeting and quarterly forecast updates
- Track budget vs actuals and explain key variances
- Support leadership with financial analysis for strategic decisions
- Provide financial input for new projects, partnerships, and investments
Management Reporting
- Prepare monthly management reporting
- Produce clear financial dashboards for leadership
- Track key financial metrics (revenue, margin, cash, burn, runway)
- Prepare financial material for board meetings
Accounting and Financial Close
- Oversee the outsourced accounting team
- Ensure accurate bookkeeping and general ledger management
- Manage monthly and year-end financial closing
- Ensure invoices, expenses, and payments are properly recorded
- Ensure financial records are audit-ready
Budget Control and Spend Oversight
- Review purchase requisitions and approval memos
- Monitor department budgets and spending
- Ensure spending follows approved budgets
- Flag financial risks or overruns early
Treasury and Cash Management
- Monitor company cash position and runway
- Manage payments and collections
- Forecast cash needs and liquidity
M&A and Strategic Transactions
- Support financial analysis for acquisitions or partnerships
- Support due diligence processes
- Prepare financial data and documentation required for transactions
Compliance and Controls
- Ensure tax filings and statutory reporting are completed
- Maintain basic financial controls and documentation
- Support external audits when required
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Economics
- 610 years of experience in finance, accounting, or FP&A
- Strong understanding of accounting and financial statements
- Experience building budgets and financial forecasts
- Experience preparing management reports
- Comfortable working with outsourced accounting teams
- Strong financial modelling skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
Preferred
- Experience in a startup or fast-growing company
- Exposure to M&A or fundraising processes
- CPA, ACCA or CFA qualification
