The financial controller is responsible for overseeing all financial operations of the hotel, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and overall financial health. This role plays a critical part during the pre-opening phase by establishing robust financial systems, budgets, and controls to support a successful launch and ongoing operational excellence.
What you'll do...
Pre-opening responsibilities
- Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and internal controls aligned with corporate standards and tailored to the property's specific needs.
- Set up accounting systems and software, ensuring full readiness for operational launch.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning for both pre-opening and ongoing operations.
- Collaborate closely with project management and other departments to monitor pre-opening costs and capital expenditures.
- Train and prepare the finance team on systems, processes, and compliance requirements ahead of operations.
- Operational responsibilities
- Manage all core accounting functions including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and financial reporting.
- Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports for management and corporate teams.
- Monitor cash flow, working capital, and overall financial performance against budgets and forecasts.
- Ensure strict compliance with local tax laws, labor regulations, and corporate policies.
- Coordinate internal and external audits, and address audit findings with corrective actions.
- Implement cost control measures and financial risk management strategies.
- Provide insightful financial analysis and reports to support informed business decision-making.
Team leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team, promoting a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Oversee recruitment, onboarding, training, and performance management within the finance department.
Brand & culture contribution
- Act as a key ambassador for the hotel's brand values by ensuring financial practices uphold the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and accountability.
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive culture within the finance team, aligned with the company's commitment to creativity, respect, and innovation.
- Support cross-departmental initiatives by providing financial insights that enable smart investments in guest experience and brand growth.
- Champion sustainability and responsible business practices in financial decision-making to contribute to the hotel's long-term positive impact on the community and environment.
- Promote continuous learning and development, encouraging the finance team to stay curious, adaptive, and aligned with evolving brand goals.
Qualifications
- What we're looking for...
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; professional accounting qualification (e.g., CPA, ACCA) preferred.
- Minimum 7 years experience in financial management, preferably within the hospitality industry.
- Strong knowledge of Egyptian financial regulations, tax laws, and compliance requirements.
- Proficient in accounting software and MS Office suite.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities with experience managing and developing teams.
