We have partnered with our client on a unique opportunity within the retail sector for a Financial Controller.
Reporting directly to the CFO, this role will oversee the accounting function within a high-volume, inventory-driven business, managing a small team of accountants while ensuring strong financial control and reporting.
The role requires strong SAP S/4HANA experience and a solid understanding of inventory accounting within a retail or distribution environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable and financial reporting.
- Provide day-to-day leadership and guidance to a small team of accountants, ensuring efficient of financial operations
- Lead the month-end and year-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Ensure compliance with IFRS, internal policies and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee inventory accounting, stock reconciliation and cost of goods sold reporting in a retail or warehouse environment.
- Manage Goods Receipt (GR) / Invoice Receipt (IR) reconciliation and supplier accounting processes within SAP.
- Support the CFO with financial analysis, budgeting and forecasting activities.
- Oversee VAT compliance, tax filings and regulatory reporting in Saudi Arabia, ensuring adherence to requirements of the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA), including VAT returns and withholding tax obligations
- Work closely with operations, procurement and logistics teams to ensure accurate inventory and financial reporting.
- Assist in the preparation of management reports and financial dashboards, including the use of Power BI where applicable.
- Coordinate with external auditors and other external stakeholders during audit and reporting cycles.
- Identify opportunities to improve financial controls, reporting processes and system efficiencies.
Key Requirements
- Professional accounting qualification (ACCA, CPA, ACA or equivalent).
- Strong experience within retail, FMCG, distribution or other inventory-driven businesses.
- Experience working with SAP S/4HANA, ideally including ideally including finance and inventory modules such as Financial Reporting (FI)/ Cost Control and profitability (CO) and Materials Management (MM).
- Solid understanding of inventory accounting, stock reconciliation and GR/IR processes. Working knowledge of Power BI or other financial reporting tools is advantageous.
- Previous experience managing or supervising accounting teams.
- Arabic language would be an advantage, although not essential.
