Freelance Technical Designer

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Freelance Technical Designer with proven hands-on experience specifically in Events, Exhibitions and Fit-Out projects. The role is primarily focused on 2D technical drafting and detailing, translating approved design concepts and 3D models into accurate, buildable drawings for production, fabrication, venue/client submissions and site execution. The candidate must also be confident in reviewing and understanding 3D models and should be able to work independently and coordinate effectively with Design, Project Management, Production, Engineering and Site teams under tight project timelines.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed 2D technical drawing packages for events, exhibitions and fit-out projects, including plans, elevations, sections, setting-out drawings, details and specifications.
• Review and interpret approved design concepts, 3D models and visuals, and translate them into accurate, buildable 2D technical drawings.
• Develop production, fabrication, installation and fixing details with clear dimensions, materials and finishes.
• Coordinate with Design, Project Management, Production, Engineering and Site teams to ensure feasibility, accuracy and buildability.
• Review drawings against project requirements, venue/client standards, functionality and production constraints.
• Maintain accurate drawing revisions, technical documentation and project records throughout all project stages.
• Work independently on fast-track projects, managing multiple priorities while maintaining drawing quality and agreed deadlines.
  
  

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or diploma in Technical Design, Interior Design, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
• 5+ years of relevant technical design/drafting experience, with proven hands-on experience specifically in events, exhibitions and fit-out projects.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp and Rhino is mandatory. Strong AutoCAD 2D drafting and detailing skills are essential, and the candidate must be able to confidently open, navigate, review and interpret 3D models in SketchUp and Rhino.
• Strong understanding of fit-out construction methods, materials, finishes, joinery, metalwork, fabrication and installation requirements.
• Excellent attention to detail, technical problem-solving ability and understanding of production-ready documentation.

• Strong ability to read and understand design concepts, presentations and 3D models, identify relevant dimensions/interfaces, and translate the information into complete 2D technical documentation.
• Ability to prepare clear production/fabrication drawings, detailed sections and fixing details suitable for execution.
• Good communication and coordination skills with Design, Project Management, Production, Engineering and Site teams.
• Strong organizational and multitasking abilities, with the ability to work under tight deadlines while maintaining quality.
• Analytical thinking, practical detailing skills and a solution-oriented mindset for fast-paced event, exhibition and fit-out projects.
