Job Description

  • Own and manage the dry-bulk freight desk, chartering vessel tonnage (Handysize to Capesize) through voyage charters, time charters, and Contracts of Affreightment (COAs).
  • Maintain P&L accountability for the freight desk, driving margin generation, route arbitrage, and total landed-cost optimization across physical trade flows.
  • Manage freight and fuel exposure using Forward Freight Agreements (FFAs), bunker hedging, and mark-to-market risk controls within approved limits.
  • Partner with procurement to design, tender, and structure end-to-end multimodal supply chain networks from mine-site and port of loading to global destination ports.
  • Build and cultivate relationships with global shipowners, disponent owners, shipbrokers, port operators, and third-party logistics (3PL) providers.
  • Oversee post-fixture operations, including vessel nominations, laytime/demurrage/despatch calculations, statement of facts review, and commercial claims resolution.
  • Deliver market intelligence, freight-rate forecasts, and route-economics analysis based on Baltic Exchange indices, supply/demand balances, and bunker dynamics.
  • Structure logistics service agreements, set operational SLAs and KPIs, and lead vendor qualification and evaluation processes.
  • Ensure strict adherence to international sanctions, KYC regulations, maritime insurance obligations, and marine decarbonization/emissions standards (CII/EEXI).
  • Lead, coach, and mentor desk analysts while establishing strong governance, controls, and reporting frameworks for the freight function.
