Job Purpose
The General Ledger Section Head is responsible for leading and supervising all general ledger and financial reporting activities across the organization. The role ensures accurate financial records, compliance with IFRS and local regulations, strong internal controls, and timely financial reporting to support management decision-making. The position also plays a key role in enhancing accounting policies, procedures, and ERP-driven financial processes.
Key Accountabilities
Functional Responsibilities
- Supervise and review the work of general ledger accountants, including setting priorities, schedules, and performance expectations.
- Review vouchers, journal entries, reconciliations, and complex accounting computations to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Prepare and coordinate journal entries, bank reconciliations, cash movements, and inter-company/inter-fund transfers.
- Establish, monitor, and enforce accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard company assets.
- Review and approve balance sheets, trial balances, and financial reports; investigate and resolve discrepancies.
- Oversee accounting entries related to fixed assets, capitalization, depreciation, amortization, and bond transactions (if applicable).
- Ensure subsidiary ledgers (payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory) are fully reconciled with general ledger control accounts.
- Conduct periodic analysis of balance sheet accounts including cash, clearing, liabilities, inventory, and accruals.
- Maintain accurate chart of accounts, budget accounts, and general ledger structures within the ERP system.
- Ensure budgets are properly recorded, monitored, and updated to reflect operational activities.
- Prepare all monthly, quarterly, annual, and ad-hoc financial statements in accordance with IFRS.
- Support external and internal audits by providing accurate financial data, explanations, and documentation.
- Monitor financial performance through variance analysis and recommend corrective actions to achieve budget objectives.
- Ensure compliance with local statutory, tax, and regulatory requirements, proactively advising management on required actions.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all financial and business information.
Reporting Responsibilities
- Prepare special financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing financial data and trends.
- Assist in preparing and analyzing monthly management reports for executive and board review.
- Prepare internal and external financial reports, surveys, and regulatory submissions as required.
Team Leadership & Management
- Lead, coach, and develop the general ledger team to ensure high performance and professional growth.
- Ensure staff are well-trained on accounting policies, procedures, and ERP systems.
- Monitor workload distribution, accuracy, and timeliness of deliverables.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and prepare annual performance evaluations.
- Promote an effective leadership style aligned with company values, supporting strategic objectives and continuous improvement.

Qualifications & Experience
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Accounting Management.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years in a Senior Accountant role within a large organization.
- Minimum 8 years total experience in finance and accounting functions.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS and financial reporting standards.
- Hands-on experience with accounting software and ERP systems; Microsoft Dynamics experience is a plus.
- Professional certification (CPA, ACCA, CMA, or equivalent) is an advantage.
