General Ledger Section Head

We're seeking a GL Section Head to lead our General Ledger function, ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and compliance of our financial records while driving process improvements and guiding the GL team to excellence. In this pivotal role, you'll not only oversee all GL operations but also partner closely with other finance functions to deliver timely, insightful financial reporting that supports strategic business decisions. Lychee is the leading player in the rapidly growing healthy food industry in Egypt, with a unique and highly scalable position in the market that combines a healthy fast- food retail arm and a manufacturing arm for healthy packaged foods. Most notably fresh juices and Greek yogurt.

As part of our greater mission to make healthier food choices accessible and sustainable for people's everyday lifestyle - we're extending our commitment to the region with our entry into the Saudi Arabian market, with a substantial retail expansion plan and on-ground operations starting Q2, 2025 in Riyadh.

Lychee relies on both its manufacturing capabilities and brand recognition built over a decade to expand its retail operations seamlessly based on customer demand and to scale its existing presence in modern trade, traditional trade and quick commerce.

What will you be doing

• Lead and manage the GL accounting team by setting clear objectives, distributing workload, monitoring daily activities, and providing technical guidance to ensure accurate and timely deliverables.
• Review and approve all journal entries related to accruals, prepayments, provisions, and adjustments to ensure correct coding and alignment with accounting policies.
• Supervise monthly and year-end closing processes by preparing, reviewing, and validating trial balances, ensuring all ledgers are accurate and complete before submission to management.
• Oversee and validate balance sheet reconciliations for all accounts including cash, receivables, payables, inventory, and intercompany accounts; investigate and resolve discrepancies promptly.
• Manage fixed assets accounting by reviewing capitalization requests, ensuring accurate recording, overseeing monthly depreciation runs, and coordinating disposal or write-off processes in line with policy.
• Ensure compliance with IFRS/local accounting standards by staying updated on changes, training the team, and adjusting procedures accordingly.
• Coordinate with cost accounting to ensure accurate posting of manufacturing variances, inventory adjustments, and work-in-progress valuations.
• Collaborate with accounts payable and receivable teams to ensure all transactions are recorded in the correct period and disputes are resolved before month-end.
• Act as the primary liaison with auditors by preparing audit schedules, responding to queries, and ensuring supporting documentation is complete and accurate.
• Monitor and enforce internal controls to safeguard company assets and prevent misstatements, fraud, or errors, including segregation of duties within the GL team.
• Support the budgeting and forecasting process by providing historical actuals, variance analysis, and commentary to management.
• Oversee tax-related GL entries and ensure that VAT, withholding tax, and corporate tax transactions are recorded and reported accurately in coordination with the tax team.
• Drive ERP improvements by identifying automation opportunities, participating in system upgrades, and testing new features to enhance reporting efficiency.
• Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all GL processes, ensuring consistency and compliance across the finance department.

What are we looking for

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting
• Minimum 8 years of experience in GL Accounting, with at least 2 years in a leadership role at manufacturing industry
• Strong knowledge of IFRS or local accounting standards
• Strong knowledge of local financial and tax regulations
• Proficiency in ERP systems
• Strong Leadership, Communication, and Problem-solving skills
• Exceptional attention to detail
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle pressure.
