Job Purpose

The General Ledger Section Head is responsible for supervising and managing general ledger accounting activities that are complex and broad in nature, with a strong focus on financial reporting, compliance, and internal controls.

The role provides internal accounting leadership by evaluating, recommending, and implementing best accounting practices, ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and applicable financial standards.

Job Dimensions

  • Direct Reports: As per approved organizational structure
  • Financial Responsibility: Oversight of general ledger, financial statements, and related controls

Key Accountabilities

1. Functional Duties

  • Supervise general ledger accountants, set priorities, assign work, and review outputs
  • Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and accounting computations
  • Coordinate and prepare journal entries, bank reconciliations, cash movements, and intercompany/interfund transactions
  • Establish, monitor, and enforce accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Review balance sheets and accounting reports; investigate and resolve discrepancies
  • Oversee accounting entries related to asset capitalization, depreciation, amortization, and bond transactions
  • Monitor financial position and support external and internal audit activities
  • Support budget control through variance analysis and corrective action recommendations
  • Ensure compliance with local regulations, tax laws, and reporting requirements
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, annual, and ad-hoc financial statements
  • Maintain chart of accounts, general ledger structure, and ERP transactions
  • Ensure subsidiary ledgers (AP, AR, payroll, inventory) reconcile with the general ledger
  • Perform regular balance sheet reviews including cash, inventory, liabilities, and clearing accounts
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of financial and business information

2. Reporting

  • Prepare financial and analytical reports for management and stakeholders
  • Support monthly management reporting and financial review meetings
  • Prepare internal, external, and regulatory reports as required

3. Team Management

  • Lead, coach, and develop the general ledger team
  • Ensure team compliance with policies, procedures, and deadlines
  • Monitor performance and conduct annual performance evaluations
  • Promote a high-performance culture aligned with company values and objectives

Qualifications & Experience

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration

Minimum Experience

  • Minimum 5 years in a Senior Accountant role within a large organization
  • Total finance experience of 8+ years
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS
  • Hands-on experience with accounting software and ERP systems (Microsoft Dynamics is a plus)
  • Professional certification (CPA, ACCA, CMA, SOCPA) is an advantage

  • Fluency in English (written and spoken)
  • Strong analytical and reporting capabilities
  • Ability to develop, modify, and recommend accounting policies and procedures
  • Ability to design, modify, and evaluate ERP reports, workflows, and forms
