Job Description General Manager - MRO Operational Excellence Location: Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) Reporting To: Vice President - MRO Employment Type: Full-time, Senior Leadership Role Role Purpose & Job Summary The General Manager - MRO Operational Excellence is a senior leadership role responsible for driving operational excellence, efficiency, and continual improvement across the MRO (Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul) function. The role serves as a critical bridge between MRO Production and MRO Projects, ensuring strategic alignment, optimized processes, and consistent, high-quality delivery across all shipyard operations. This position has enterprise-wide impact, influencing operational performance, delivery timelines, cost optimization, resource planning, procurement effectiveness, and contractual execution. The GM will proactively identify operational gaps, lead transformation initiatives, embed best practices, and champion a culture of continuous learning and performance excellence. Operating across multiple departments and disciplines, the role supports MRO activities across the shipyard and interfaces closely with Procurement, Project Controls, Business Development, QA/QC, and other support functions. The incumbent will exercise significant leadership autonomy, influence strategic decisions, and provide expert guidance based on extensive shipbuilding and ship repair experience. Key Areas of Accountability Operational Excellence & Process Improvement
- Identify operational and procedural gaps arising from project execution and production delivery, and lead revisions to MRO procedures, standards, and workflows through to full closure.
- Spearhead efficiency optimization initiatives aimed at reducing project turnaround time and improving redelivery performance.
- Analyze production efficiencies, workflows, and capacity utilization; recommend and implement improvement strategies through Production Process Engineers and Interface Engineers.
Cross-Functional Leadership & Collaboration
- Maintain close daily coordination with MRO Production, Projects, and other internal departments to ensure operational alignment and smooth execution.
- Establish strong collaboration with Procurement, Project Controls, Business Development, and QA/QC to ensure integrated decision-making and performance optimization.
- Act as an escalation and problem-solving authority for cross-functional operational challenges.
Performance Management & KPIs
- Develop, implement, and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and objectives related to MRO projects, production efficiency, cost, quality, and schedule adherence.
- Drive accountability for performance outcomes and ensure corrective actions are implemented and sustained.
Quality, Compliance & Risk Management
- Initiate, manage, and close non-conformance reports (NCRs), whether client-driven or internal, coordinating with QA/QC teams to ensure effective resolution.
- Ensure compliance with contractual, regulatory, and classification society requirements across MRO operations.
Technology, Innovation & CAPEX
- Track relevant technological advancements in shipbuilding and MRO operations; develop business cases and recommendations for adoption.
- Contribute to CAPEX planning, justification, and implementation for MRO-related improvement initiatives, ensuring execution through to closure.
Financial & Resource Planning
- Support the development of MRO budgets, cost forecasts, and manpower planning in collaboration with Project Controls.
- Prepare and manage departmental budgets, ensuring financial discipline and alignment with operational objectives.
Procurement & Supply Chain Oversight
- Be accountable for the MRO project procurement cycle, working closely with assigned procurement teams and PSCM to meet schedule and project commitments.
- Analyze procurement strategies and vendor options to ensure timely availability, cost effectiveness, and contractual compliance.
- Contribute to vendor evaluation processes based on production and project performance feedback.
Contracts & Commercial Support
- Provide expert insight into client and vendor contracts, including risk identification, operational feasibility, and execution considerations.
- Support Business Development and management with operational input for new tenders, proposals, and service offerings.
Education & Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline relevant to shipbuilding or MRO operations.
- Advanced certifications in operational excellence, project management, or supply chain management are an advantage.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 18 years of overall professional experience within shipyards, including ship/rig repair, fabrication, or new build environments.
- At least 10 years of experience within the shipbuilding or ship repair industry, with demonstrable leadership in operations or project delivery.
- Strong exposure to large-scale MRO operations, complex project environments, and multi-disciplinary coordination.
