  • General Area of Responsibility

To perform the duties and functions of this position as instructed by the tug Master.

Specific Area of Responsibility

  • Adhere to company HSE policy, observe all safety procedures as required and conduct himself safely and responsibly.
  • Have a comprehensive knowledge of all safety equipment available on board the tugboat and be aware of their specific locations and able to use them in emergency situations.
  • Active participation in safety training like drills onboard
  • The GP has the obligation to Stop Work whenever a task is unsafe (by personal judgement) and then inform the Master
  • GP must know the procedure Stop Work that also include the `Take 5`. `Stop Work` and `Take 5` is simplest measures Svitzer have for crew to prevent personal injuries.
  • The GP must know the procedure Proactive and Near Miss Reporting for the various type of occurrences that should be reported to the Master with the potential to cause injury, illness, pollution, defects or damage
  • Comply with the regulations of the company safety management system HMS
  • Carry out maintenance and cleaning duties as required.
  • Have basic knowledge of towing operations and be able to deal with mooring ropes and towing winches.
  • Assist crew members in embarking and disembarking from tugboat safely.
  • Take part in all training exercises performed by the tugboat and train to deal with emergency situations.
  • Perform other duties as required by tug Master.
  • Take part in tug main-engine maintenance and repair work as required.
  • Maintain tugboat cleanliness and adhere to sanitary habits.
  • Maintain living areas clean and tidy.
  • Observe VHF-radio watch during shift.
  • Carry out look-out duties as directed by tug Master/Chief Engineer
  • Perform duties on board Mooring Boat as required by tug Master, company GM or company.

Preferred Expernances

Two years experience on board a marine vessel, preferably a tugboat

Required Education and competencies

  • STCW95 certification (II/4) .
  • Valid seaman book
  • Valid seafarer medical certificate
