Job Purpose

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Group Director - Communications (Ports & Terminals) will manage all communications activities for DP World's Global Ports and Terminals pillar.

The Director will sit on the Pillar leadership team and provide senior communications counsel, as well as developing and managing the execution of a strategic and tactical communications plan that will integrate DP World's key messages, vision, mission, values and brand promise as it relates to the pillar's business strategy, audiences and commercial objectives.

The Role Will Be Responsible For

  • Acting as a strategic advisor and communications business partner to senior stakeholders; leading scheduled, regular meetings to ensure alignment and visibility of developments in the business.
  • Recommending and delivering communications strategies that reflect the specific business objectives and growth priorities at global and regional levels including the tailoring of communications to the needs of customers, employees and other stakeholder groups.
  • Managing the inputs of other Group Communications Centres of Excellence and external agencies in developing and delivering effective, cost-efficient and measurable implementations of these strategies.
  • Ensuring that all Business Communications activities are aligned with the global brand purpose and the overall One DP World positioning as a provider of end-to-end logistics solutions.

The Group Director - Communications (Ports & Terminals) will manage our GHSE and Sustainability Communications Manager, ensuring our sustainability activity is commercialised and aligned with the business needs.

Key Accountabilities

Strategy. To establish and maintain a long-term communications strategy for the P&T business which:

  • is firmly rooted in the global and regional business objectives of the P&T pillar
  • focuses on customising communications to high priority sectors and employs data and insights to ensure customer-centricity
  • aligns with overall Group strategies for building the DP World business and brand, and delivery of Group HSE and Sustainability targets.

Planning. To develop and manage an annual P&T communications plan which:

  • identifies all key initiatives, projects and tasks to be progressed in the immediate term to support agreed P&T business and brand priorities at global and regional levels
  • outlines how Group HSE and Sustainability policies and objectives will be integrated into P&T communications (and where appropriate in wider business communications)
  • establishes measurable objectives, timelines, budgets and resource allocation for all communications activities and aligns with the planning cycles and processes used in the development of the annual global communications plan for DP World

Implementation. To oversee effective and cost-efficient actioning of the plan by:

  • working closely with the P&T business within a clearly defined framework of responsibilities
  • ensuring that the inputs of other Communications Centres of Excellence reflect the requirements of the P&T business
  • briefing and managing the delivery of work by key external agency partners

Measurement. To establish and maintain an actionable dashboard of metrics by:

  • establishing relevant and actionable measures of progress
  • monitoring and reporting delivery against well-defined objectives and KPIs
  • enabling communications investment to be justified based on measured outcomes / ROI

Tactical Responsiveness. To maintain the ability to respond to changes, including:

  • short-term opportunities or problems
  • crises/issues management support
  • risk management

Continuous improvement. To encourage and nurture a culture of Innovation designed to:

  • expand and strengthen professional skill sets and best practices
  • test and validate new ideas and approaches
  • draw on experience and learning from the world's best practitioners

Compliance. To constantly adhere to and actively promote behaviours which reflect the DP World brand purpose while specifically:

  • maintaining the highest levels of safety standards
  • complying with DP World Principles, Code of Conduct and Ethical policies
  • meeting all agreed standards for DP World brand and visual identity

Qualifications, Experience And Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • 10-15 years of experience in communications, marketing or related fields.
  • Experienced practitioner with well-honed strategic and analytical skills: ability to translate complex information into actionable strategies, focusing on driving business outcomes.
  • Ability to counsel and influence at the most senior levels of the business.
  • Experience in sustainability and CSR communications an advantage.
  • Leadership capabilities with track record of managing cross-functional projects and the ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Solid experience in developing and leading integrated communication programmes, meeting expectations and deadlines within budgetary guidelines.
  • Strong foundation in core concepts of financial reporting, business planning and budget management.
  • A confident communicator and presenter.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills.
  • Superior project management and time management skills.
  • A wide degree of creativity and flexibility.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of current trends in digital media / social media.
  • In-depth understanding of current affairs and awareness of economic and geopolitical context.
  • Self-motivated with a positive and professional approach.
  • Excellent written and verbal English language skills. Regional communications experience a plus. Additional languages a plus.
  • Self-starter who thrives under pressure, can prioritise multiple projects, take the initiative and is driven to achieve results in a dynamic environment.
