About NGHC
Air Products, ACWA Power, and NEOM have partnered to develop a green hydrogen-based ammonia production facility in NEOM. The project integrates renewable solar, wind, and storage power to produce green ammonia for global export, with operations scheduled to commence in 2026.
Position Summary
The GHE Control Room Operator is a key member of the NGHC Operations & Maintenance team, responsible for the day-to-day operation of the hydrogen production process, including Electrolysers, H₂ Compressors, Deoxo Reactors, TSA systems, Water Treatment, and the H₂ Pipeline.
The role ensures plant operations are carried out in accordance with company safety policies and site-specific procedures to achieve reliability, efficiency, and productivity goals while maintaining safe and reliable production.
Key Responsibilities:
Plant Operations
- Operate and monitor the hydrogen production plant safely and reliably in accordance with NGHC standards.
- Supervise DCS, data acquisition, and alarm management systems, responding to normal and abnormal operating conditions.
- Troubleshoot plant operating conditions, customer demand changes, and process optimization opportunities.
- Perform daily and monthly operational routines in accordance with operating procedures, maintenance manuals, and safety requirements.
- Perform daily chemical and water analysis and report results to the Plant Superintendent.
- Monitor operational KPIs to ensure plant performance objectives are achieved.
- Provide operational support during plant shutdown activities.
- Assist with developing and updating operating procedures.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Promote and maintain a strong safety culture with a commitment to achieving zero lost-time injuries.
- Ensure compliance with EH&S standards during all operational activities.
- Participate actively in NGHC safety programs and enforce safe work practices.
- Understand and execute the Emergency Response Plan, taking appropriate action to protect personnel and ensure safe plant shutdown when required.
- Qualify as a Safe Work Permit Issuer and Confined Space Supervisor, issuing permits as required.
- Supervise contractors through the work permit process.
Operations Support & Communication
- Act as the primary point of contact for daily operational communications with customers following NGHC communication protocols.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with customers and stakeholders.
- Maintain housekeeping standards throughout the plant.
- Contribute to maintaining site management systems, including MOC, BPs, SWIMs, and JSAs.
- Maintain a positive attitude while supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
Training & Development
- Complete all required operational training and successfully pass scheduled competency validation reviews.
- Provide training and coaching to new operators.
- Act as a trainer for newly assigned operators.
Qualifications & Experience:
Education
- High school diploma in a technical discipline or equivalent experience.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience operating DCS systems in hydrogen or chlor-alkali production plants.
- Experience working in a similar industrial process environment is preferred.
Skills & Technical Knowledge
- Strong commitment to safety and operational excellence.
- Experience interpreting PFDs, P&IDs, Single Line Diagrams, and Shutdown Matrices.
- Strong knowledge of Work Permit systems, Confined Space Entry, and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO).
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to work independently in a control room environment.
- Strong prioritization and decision-making skills.
- Good command of written and spoken English.
- Willingness to work 8-hour rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and participate in an on-call rotation.
- Proactive, honest, hardworking, and team-oriented.
- Eagerness to learn and continuously develop.
- Technical school qualification, plant maintenance experience, and hydrogen production experience are considered an advantage.
