Description

Envision Employment Solutions is currently looking for a Head of CPO EV Infrastructure Strategy & Rollout for one of our partners, a leader in the Solar Energy System Service industry!

Job Summary:

The Head of CPO EV Infrastructure Strategy & Rollout is accountable for ensuring that every deployed charging site is technically feasible, commercially viable, and aligned with the company's long-term network strategy. The role will play a critical part in defining rollout priorities, optimizing capital allocation, and scaling the charging network across urban, intercity, and highway environments.

Responsibilities:

Infrastructure Strategy & Network Planning:

  • Define and lead the overall EV charging infrastructure rollout strategy across urban locations, destination sites, intercity routes, and highway corridors.
  • Identify and prioritize high-potential deployment locations, including highways, intercity routes, high-traffic hubs, commercial destinations, and strategically relevant sites.
  • Develop phased rollout plans from pilot deployment to full-scale network expansion, ensuring alignment with business growth targets and capital allocation priorities.
  • Establish clear site selection criteria based on traffic flow, expected utilization, accessibility, grid readiness, commercial potential, and long-term strategic value.

Commercial Feasibility & Business Case Development:

  • Lead site-level business case development by evaluating CAPEX, OPEX, utilization assumptions, pricing models, ROI, IRR, and payback period.
  • Assess and recommend suitable pricing strategies, including kWh-based pricing, session-based pricing, subscription models, and partner-led commercial structures.
  • Support commercial negotiations with landlords, real estate owners, strategic partners, utilities, and other key stakeholders.
  • Ensure disciplined infrastructure investment decisions by balancing commercial returns, deployment cost, utilization potential, and network scalability.

Technical Feasibility & Engineering Oversight:

  • Assess grid availability, electrical capacity, connection requirements, and potential infrastructure upgrade needs for proposed charging sites.
  • Define optimal charger configurations based on site requirements, including AC versus DC chargers, capacity sizing, load balancing, and future scalability.
  • Oversee technical design standards to ensure deployed infrastructure is reliable, scalable, safe, and aligned with operational requirements.
  • Coordinate with utilities, EPC contractors, equipment vendors, engineering teams, and implementation partners throughout the feasibility and deployment process.

Deployment Execution & Delivery:

  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of EV charging sites from initial feasibility assessment through design, permitting, installation, testing, and commissioning.
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, contractors, vendors, and delivery risks to ensure rollout objectives are achieved efficiently.
  • Ensure alignment between technical execution, commercial feasibility, customer experience, and long-term network strategy.
  • Establish and monitor deployment KPIs, including cost per site, cost per installed kW, time-to-deploy, commissioning timelines, and contractor performance.

Operational Readiness & Optimization:

  • Ensure all charging sites are designed and deployed to support high uptime, operational efficiency, accessibility, and a positive user experience.
  • Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to define service-level requirements, preventive maintenance plans, and operational support processes.
  • Identify and mitigate risks related to congestion, site accessibility, grid reliability, safety, maintenance, and customer usability.
  • Use operational data and performance insights to improve future deployment decisions and optimize the existing network.

Cross-Functional Leadership:

  • Partner closely with commercial, partnerships, finance, technical, operations, legal, and executive teams to align infrastructure investment decisions.
  • Act as the internal subject matter authority on EV infrastructure strategy, site feasibility, capital deployment, and rollout prioritization.
  • Provide data-driven recommendations to leadership regarding network expansion, site prioritization, investment approvals, and strategic trade-offs.
  • Lead cross-functional decision-making to ensure infrastructure rollout is commercially sound, technically feasible, and operationally scalable.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, Energy Engineering, or a related technical field; a master's degree is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of power systems, electrical infrastructure, grid connectivity, and load management.
  • Solid knowledge of EV charging technologies, including AC and DC charging, charger capacity planning, hardware ecosystems, and charging site design considerations.
  • 10–15+ years of experience in infrastructure, energy, utilities, telecom, EV charging, renewable energy, or large-scale physical network deployment.
  • Proven track record of deploying infrastructure across multiple sites, from feasibility assessment and design through execution and commissioning.
  • Prior experience in EV charging infrastructure is highly preferred.
  • Experience in renewable energy, distributed energy systems, utilities, power distribution, oil and gas retail network expansion, fuel station rollout, or telecom infrastructure deployment is strongly relevant.
  • Demonstrated ability to scale infrastructure deployments from pilot phase to multi-site or nationwide rollout.
