Head of Customs Clearance. In this role, the successful candidate will lead customs and trade compliance sub-function at the country level and provide input to and lead the implementation of functional strategy to provide clearance of freight documentation through the relevant customs authorities, work with customers to guide and advise on customs regulation qualifications, both in the origin and destination countries in line with country's business strategy and objectives, corporate guidelines and policies.
Key Responsibilities:- Craft customs and trade compliance strategy in line with country's business strategy and requirements, corporate guidelines and policies
- Lead planning and implementation of customs & trade compliance and regulatory affairs plans, measures and budgets to achieve customs operational results
- Develop plans, organize and monitor customs & trade compliance and regulatory affairs activities for the country for to obtain necessary permits, licenses, certificates, authorizations and other approvals for the organization, required to conduct current and future business activities and to distribute its goods and service
- Lead fulfilment of customs requirements for the import/ export and trans-shipment of packages and documents in a time sensitive environment
- Devise and lead achievement of high standards of operational quality throughout customs clearance process, data quality and support functions
- Monitor the customs operations team and documentation team to optimize productivity and drive cost control
- Consistently deploy effective people management, cost control planning innovation and communication in order to achieve high customer satisfaction
- Liaise with customs authorities and other governmental bodies on operationally related questions
- Establish connections and build relations with customs authorities and other counterparts for running smooth operations
- Anticipate and mitigate business risk for the country's business and its customers through proactive awareness of changes in statutory regulations impacting the country's business or its customers
- Define customs processes and procedures and monitor implementation to adhere to compliance standards, legal requirements and import/ export control legislation for the country
- Benchmark, introduce and embed best in class practices and quality standards for customs at the country level
- Advice customers on legal (e.g. trade compliance - shipments to sanctioned countries) and customs topics
- Contact customs authorities
Stakeholders- Extensive contact and negotiating with other departments and 3rd parties with conflicting objectives
- Influence and challenge key stakeholders effectively
- Develop strong, trusting cross-functional relationships with senior DPDHL business leaders
- Influence others across DPDHL and externally as an internally and externally recognized thought leader representing the Group
- Champion cooperation and partnership to provide integrated solutions to problems
Management Responsibility- Lead multiple teams of lower level executives, directors/senior managers, and managers
- Develop short to long-term (1-5 years) plans for optimizing the organization, function, or job-family and the talent required to execute strategies
