Job Description

Role Summary

Avalon Pharma is seeking a highly organised Head of PMO & Delivery to establish and lead the project

management office for the Digital Technology department and to own delivery across the full project

portfolio — spanning both SAP and non-SAP initiatives.

This is a hands-on leadership role for a delivery professional who combines strong project governance

with disciplined requirements gathering and rigorous documentation. The successful candidate sets the

delivery standards, runs the portfolio in Jira and Confluence, leads and develops the project managers,

and gives leadership clear, reliable visibility of progress, risk, and spend across every workstream.

Key Responsibilities

PMO Leadership & Governance

• Establish, own, and continuously improve the PMO — delivery methodology, standards, templates, stage gates, and governance — applied consistently across SAP and non-SAP projects.

• Provide a single, reliable portfolio view of status, milestones, risks, dependencies, and budget to the CDO and leadership through executive dashboards and a disciplined reporting cadence.

Portfolio & Delivery Management (SAP & Non-SAP)

• Own end-to-end delivery across the portfolio — SAP (ERP and manufacturing) and non-SAP (custom apps) — from initiation through go-live and benefits realisation.

• Manage cross-project priorities, dependencies, resource conflicts, and escalations; keep delivery moving and remove blockers.

Delivery Quality & Governance

• Own delivery quality across the full lifecycle — requirements, design, build, and structured testing governance (SIT, UAT, cutover, and hyper care) — consistently across SAP and non-SAP projects.

• Act as the senior escalation point for delivery issues, risks, and delays, driving resolution and keeping programmes on track.

Requirements Gathering & Business Analysis

• Lead and coach the team in structured requirements gathering — eliciting, challenging, and documenting business needs into clear scope, requirements, and acceptance criteria across diverse project types.

• Ensure traceability from business intent through design to delivery, so scope is controlled and outcomes match what the business asked for.

Jira, Confluence & Methodology

• Run the portfolio in Jira — boards, sprints, epics, roadmaps, backlog management, and reporting — with strong ticket hygiene and consistent practice across teams.

• Maintain Confluence as the department's single source of truth (requirements, designs, decision logs, runbooks, governance) and apply the right delivery approach — agile/Scrum, waterfall, or hybrid — to each initiative.

Team Leadership & Capacity Planning

• Lead, mentor, and develop the project managers; set objectives, manage performance, and grow delivery capability across the team.

• Plan resourcing and capacity across the portfolio, balancing demand against available delivery capacity and flagging gaps early.

Stakeholder, Vendor & Budget Management

• Act as the senior delivery interface to business stakeholders and senior management; manage expectations and communicate clearly across technical and non-technical audiences.

• Govern external vendors against agreed milestones, SLAs, and quality gates; oversee project budgets, track actuals against forecast, and flag variances early.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field; a relevant Master's is an advantage.

• 10+ years in IT project/programme delivery, including 3+ years leading a PMO or a team of project managers.

• Proven delivery across in SAP projects.

• Strong, hands-on expertise in requirements gathering and business analysis, with excellent written documentation skills.

• Advanced practical proficiency with Jira and Confluence as primary delivery and documentation tools.

• Recognised certification — PMP, PRINCE2, or PgMP; established project management and organisational discipline.

• Scrum Master experience / certification (CSM, PSM) is strongly preferred.
