The Post: Head of Sixth Form

The Head of Sixth Form is responsible for the pastoral and academic care of all Sixth Form students. The postholder will work closely with the Sixth Form Team, including the Heads of Year 12 and Year 13, the Careers Team, Sixth Form tutors, and achievement/well-being coordinators, to support all students in the Sixth Form.

The role:

  • Lead and inspire the Sixth Form Team.
  • Ensure the highest possible quality of care for all students.
  • Sustain and develop the academic success of the Sixth Form.
  • Maintain and develop the tutorial programme for all Sixth Form students.
  • Promote a culture of excellence and high expectations in all aspects of school life.
  • Maintain excellent relationships and communication with parents, teachers and tutors.
  • Conduct an academic overview following each data collection point and lead intervention strategies.
  • Oversee and improve attendance and punctuality across the Sixth Form.
  • Manage the UCAS and university admissions process for all Year 13 students.
  • Maintain high standards of discipline and conduct across the Sixth Form.
  • Oversee and lead, where appropriate, Sixth Form assemblies, Parents Evenings, Sixth Form tutor meetings and the Student Executive.
  • Maintain and develop the organisation of Sixth Form social events.
  • Organise end-of-year Graduation and the Graduation booklet.
  • Organise the Leavers Assembly.
  • Oversee the contribution of each Sixth Form committee.
  • Liaise with the Vice Principal (Pastoral) regarding Sixth Form Open Evening.
  • Meet with the Student Executive on a weekly basis.
  • Work alongside the Head of Year 12 to organise the Student Executive election process.
  • Attend A Level Results Day.

The successful applicant will demonstrate:

  • A genuine passion for Sixth Form education.
  • A strong commitment to the personal and academic development of Sixth Form students.
  • Proven leadership experience within a Sixth Form setting.
  • A strong understanding of the academic and pastoral needs of Sixth Form students.
  • Excellent leadership and people-management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team.
  • The ability to think innovatively and implement new ideas to enhance the Sixth Form experience.
  • A commitment to continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • A recognised teaching qualification, with excellent subject knowledge.
  • Experience teaching GCSE and A Level (or equivalent), with a proven track record of outstanding learning and teaching.
  • At least three years experience of the National Curriculum for England.

To be considered for this post you must hold a BEd, or a degree with PGCE/PGDE (or equivalent). The successful applicant will also be willing to contribute to extra-curricular activities.
