Role Description The Head of Social Studies Department is a full-time, on-site role based in Dubai, responsible for leading the Social Studies faculty and ensuring high standards of teaching and learning across the department. This role includes designing and overseeing the Social Studies curriculum, aligning it with school policies, external standards, and best practices in inquiry-based and skills-focused education. The Head of Department will mentor and support teachers through regular classroom observations, feedback, coaching, and collaborative planning meetings. They will analyze assessment data, monitor student progress, and implement strategies to raise achievement and engagement in Social Studies. The role also involves coordinating departmental resources, organizing enrichment activities, supporting whole-school initiatives, and maintaining regular communication with school leadership, colleagues, learners, and families.

Qualifications

  • Strong foundation in Education and Social Studies, with proven experience in classroom teaching and a clear understanding of age-appropriate pedagogy.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Curriculum Development, including designing coherent units, assessments, and learning experiences aligned to standards.
  • Proficient Communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, engage families, and present clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Proven Educational Leadership capabilities, including team management, mentoring, data-informed decision-making, and contribution to school-wide improvement.
  • Awareness of the role of Physical Education and other subjects in a holistic curriculum, and ability to collaborate across departments to support whole-child development.
  • Relevant teaching qualification and a degree in Education, Social Studies, History, Geography, or a related field; advanced qualifications in educational leadership are an advantage.
  • Experience in international or diverse school settings, with a commitment to inclusive, culturally responsive, and learner-centered practices.
  • Ability to model professional integrity, adaptability, and reflective practice in a dynamic school environment.
