Role Overview
We are seeking a Head of Trading & Market Risk, responsible for the oversight, steering, and economic control of trading models and risk books at a portfolio level.
In this context, the position has senior decision authority across Trading PODs: setting risk posture, directing intervention when required, and holding ultimate accountability for exposure outcomes, without engaging in day-to-day execution.
The role is focused on exposure governance through expertise, not trade selection or market calling. The successful candidate will provide senior judgement on risk posture and model behaviour, intervening selectively when exposure characteristics move outside acceptable or intended bounds.
This position involves few but consequential decisions, with accountability for how risk is accumulated, carried, and adjusted over time. It is a front-line trading role with economic ownership, distinct from risk policy, compliance, or execution-heavy trading functions.
Job Responsibilities
- Own portfoliolevel market exposure, ensuring risk remains economically justified and survivable across changing market conditions.
- Act as a Chair-level trading authority, providing oversight and direction across trading models and risk books rather than engaging in routine execution.
- Provide oversight of trading models, strategies, and books, including steering risk posture, capital allocation, and model behaviour through market cycles.
- Set and communicate risk posture and intervention expectations for underlying trading books, ensuring consistency with the firm's risk appetite.
- Decide when intervention is required and when it is not, balancing hedge costs, market impact, opportunity cost, and secondorder effects.
- Approve or direct material exposure adjustments or targeted hedges where asymmetry or structural risk justifies action.
- Monitor PnL distribution, drawdowns, tail outcomes, and model behaviour, intervening only when outcomes deviate from expected or acceptable ranges.
- Assess exposure concentration, correlation, and persistence across models and books over time rather than reacting to shortterm noise.
- Act as the accountable senior trading owner during material risk events, providing direction, escalation, and postevent accountability.
- Lead postevent and periodic reviews of trading models and books, focused on decision quality, structural behaviour, and outcomes.
- Work closely with Risk, Pricing, and Trading Engineering teams, while retaining primary ownership of economic decisions related to exposure management.
Experience
- 10 years in the trading/brokerage industry, with 5+ years relevant experience in a senior trading or exposure ownership role within an institutional, wholesale, or professional trading environment, with responsibility for managing portfoliolevel market risk.
- Background as a senior trader, desk head, or deputy desk head overseeing trading models or risk books in a bank, prop trading firm, hedge fund, or institutional marketmaking environment.
- Strong understanding of broker trading models, market microstructure, and electronic trading environments.
- Experience leading risk monitoring or trading operations teams.
- Deep knowledge of trading platforms (MT4/MT5) and broker execution environments.
- Demonstrated experience outside of retail brokerage or retail trading environments.
- Experience transitioning from active execution to capital and risk stewardship, with accountability for outcomes rather than activity.
- Clear, outcomeoriented communication style, especially during stress or drawdown periods.
- Degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or similar. (Professional risk certifications optional; trading judgement is prioritized.)
