Job Description

JOB PURPOSE:
A health information manager is responsible for leading the HIM department that ensures accurate and quality management of patient's medical record. This role works closely with physicians, nurses, allied health professionals as well as non-clinical stakeholders to facilitate collection, organization and storage of the medical records in a safe environment. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that documentation is accurate, complete, and documented in the medical record within a defined timeframe.

Requirements

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

§ Identifying training needs and develop talent, in conjunction with the relevant stakeholders

§ Interview and onboard new hires in the HIM department

§ Establish, plan and update required Policies and Procedures relevant to health information management

§ Ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices in relation to management of the electronic medical record system (EMR)

§ Monitor information in the EMR for accuracy, completion and facilitate initiatives to improve quality of data input and output

§ Collaborate with Quality team on developing and executing data audits in the EMR

§ Analyze clinical data for research, quality improvement, and report findings accordingly

§ Ensure compliance with relevant accreditation and licensing standards

§ Ensure that direct reports are trained on relevant accreditation and licensing standards

§ Facilitate completion of reports required for external entities

§ Performance manage all members of HIM including but not limited to: medical records, clinical coding, documentation improvement and analysis

§ Establish audit systems consistent with policies to address identified problems and assure accurate and complete documentation

§ Provide education sessions to clinical staff on documentation requirements

§ Work closely with Finance department to ensure a fully integrated, centralized revenue cycle system is developed and operationalized

§ Ensure that revenue capture system is implemented and staff are trained

§ Support Revenue Cycle team in billing processes by ensuring coding accuracy

§ Report data and trends on a monthly basis and as requested

§ Ensure HIM team's compliance with confidentiality and privacy laws

§ Facilitate medical record improvement initiatives design and implementation

§ Lead diverse teams to a common purpose and proactively seek new ideas and solutions to improve documentation and data quality

§ Demonstrate ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant

§ Develop annual department and staff goals and objectives in line with the mission, vision, values and strategic plan of Naufar

§ Oversee productivity and quality monitoring and provide timely and consistent feedback to employees and leadership team

§ Assist Director of Clinical Operations with the budget development

§ Lead initiatives to identify opportunities for the EMR improvement and compliance

§ Coach, encourage, document and report on staff performance relative to quality of data input and output in the EMR

§ Escalate matters that may impact delivery of quality patient care

§ Manage budget planning for the HIM department in line with the organizational needs

Professional/Academic Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree from a recognized university
Current, valid, and active RHIT or RHIA Certification by the American Health Management Information Association and/or equivalent

Experience:
Minimum of eight years as a Health Information Management out of which a minimum of three years of experience in a Managerial Level
