The HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring safety and environmental strategies. Unlike general construction or heavy industry, this role requires a deep understanding of food safety interfaces (like HACCP), chemical handling for sanitation, and high-speed packaging machinery.
Core Responsibilities
1. Occupational Health & Safety
- Risk Assessment: Conduct regular Job Safety Analysis (JSA) for production lines, focusing on lockout/tagout (LOTO), machine guarding, and ergonomics.
- Incident Investigation: Lead root-cause analysis (RCA) for any near-misses or accidents and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Training: Design and deliver safety induction programs for new hires and specialized training (e.g., forklift safety, chemical spill response) for existing staff.
2. Food Safety & Hygiene Integration
- Cross-Functional Compliance: Ensure that HSE protocols do not compromise food safety standards (e.g., ensuring PPE is food-grade and doesn't pose a physical contaminant risk).
- Chemical Management: Oversee the safe storage and handling of Clean-In-Place (CIP) chemicals and refrigerants (like Ammonia or $CO_2$).
3. Environmental & Sustainability
- Waste Management: Manage the disposal of organic waste, packaging materials, and hazardous chemicals in accordance with local environmental regulations.
- Resource Conservation: Monitor water usage and wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) efficiency to meet sustainability targets.
4. Compliance & Auditing
- Regulatory Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact for government bodies (such as the Saudi Food and Drug Authority or Modon) regarding safety and environmental permits.
- Internal Audits: Conduct regular site walkthroughs and formal audits to ensure 100% compliance with ISO 45001 (Safety) and ISO 14001 (Environment).
Qualifications & Skills:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Environmental, Chemical, or Mechanical).
NEBOSH IGC is typically mandatory; OSHA or IOSH certifications are highly preferred.
Experience
3–5 years in a manufacturing or FMCG
