Description
Job Purpose:
To fulfill all duties and responsibilities of a lab technologist in hematology unit.
Key Responsibilities And Duties
- Perform routine and specialized hematological tests, including CBC (Complete Blood Count), coagulation studies, blood smears.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as hematology analyzers, centrifuges, and microscopes.
- Prepare and process blood samples, ensuring proper labeling, handling, and storage.
- Evaluate blood smears under a microscope in collaboration with the hematopathologist to identify abnormalities in cell morphology.
- Adequate monitoring and ordering of required supplies and chemicals stock.
- Compliance with established policies and standard operating procedures for implemented techniques within the lab and adherence to the highest standards of practice.
- Preparation of written drafts of updated policies and procedures of the implemented techniques within his/her area of specialty, to be reviewed and authorized by the consultant pathologist.
- Assist in the procedure of bone marrow biopsy by preparing bone marrow films along with proper labelling.
- Preparation of any specimens that require sending to anatomic pathology unit or reference laboratory or for extended work up.
- Assist in Flow Cytometry and Cytogenetics Testing procedures.
- Ensuring proper and timely disposal of expired chemicals, supplies, processed slides and specimens in compliance with disposal of medical/lab waste policies.
- Record and document test results accurately in the laboratory information management system
- Implementing critical results reporting according to lab policy.
- Actively participates in continuous medical education and training of new laboratory staff members, trainees and interns
- Adequate knowledge on how to file an occurrence variance report (OVR) when required.
- Participate in quality control and assurance programs to ensure consistent accuracy and reliability of test outcomes.
- Ability to verbalize correct understanding of safety procedures in the event of internal or external disasters and their responsibility and role in the event of occurrence.
- Educates patients and their families about health conditions, treatments and preventative measures if applicable.
- Performs other duties within the scope of responsibilities and requirements of the job.

Experience
Post graduate practical experience in clinical (diagnostic) Hematology of 3 years at least.
Education
Bachelor degree of medical technology, science or biomedical sciences.
Language
A good-very good command of English (Spoken and written) in addition to Arabic language.
Licenses / Certifications
License for practice as per the regional health regulatory authority e.g. (SCFHS / DHA)
