Head of English (IB)

Dubai, UAE, August 2026 Start

An established and well-respected IB World School in Dubai, rated Very Good, is seeking an exceptional and visionary Head of English to lead a thriving English department across the Middle Years and Diploma Programmes.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced IB practitioner and middle leader who is passionate about high-quality teaching and learning, collaborative leadership, and developing internationally minded learners.

The Role

The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership for English across MYP and DP, ensuring outstanding curriculum delivery, strong academic outcomes, and a culture of continuous improvement.

The Head of English will lead a large team of committed teachers, fostering a collaborative environment where professional growth, innovation, and student voice are central to departmental practice.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic & Academic Leadership

Lead the development and implementation of a coherent, high-quality English curriculum across MYP and DP.

Ensure alignment with IB philosophy, learner profile, and ATL skills.

Monitor academic performance and use data strategically to drive improvement.

Lead standardisation, moderation, and assessment processes to maintain rigorous IB standards.

Support and guide teachers in delivering impactful and engaging lessons.

Teaching & Learning

Model outstanding classroom practice.

Embed inquiry-based learning, critical thinking, and international mindedness across the curriculum.

Ensure differentiation and inclusion remain central to departmental practice.

Support DP students with Internal Assessments and examination preparation.

Team Development

Line manage and coach members of the English department

Lead professional development and promote reflective practice.

Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and shared success.

Support new teachers in their transition into IB frameworks where applicable.

Community & Communication

Build strong partnerships with parents to support student progress

Promote literacy initiatives across the school.

Contribute to whole-school strategic priorities and cross-curricular development.

The Ideal Candidate:

Hold a relevant subject degree and recognised teaching qualification (PGCE/QTS or equivalent).

Have significant experience teaching IB English (MYP and/or DP).

Demonstrate successful middle leadership experience.

Show a strong understanding of IB assessment and curriculum design.

Be data-informed, reflective, and solution-focused.

Be collaborative, positive, and committed to raising standards.
