Job Description
Summary
The Hostess is often the first and last point of contact within the dining venue, playing an important role in creating a welcoming and polished guest experience. The position requires confidence, strong communication skills, excellent organization, and the ability to manage reservations and guest preferences while supporting smooth restaurant operations.
Main Duties:
- Welcome and greet guests in a warm, professional, and personalized manner, creating a positive first impression and maintaining appropriate five-star service etiquette.
- Manage restaurant reservations, table allocations, seating plans, and waiting lists, ensuring efficient use of available tables while considering guest preferences and operational requirements.
- Escort guests to their assigned tables and present the dining venue appropriately, ensuring menus, seating arrangements, and table settings are ready before seating.
- Maintain accurate knowledge of restaurant operating hours, menus, promotions, special events, dress codes, and hotel facilities to confidently assist with guest enquiries.
- Recognize returning guests, VIPs, special occasions, and individual preferences, communicating relevant information discreetly to the service team to support a personalized dining experience.
- Coordinate closely with restaurant managers, supervisors, waiters, kitchen colleagues, and other departments to manage guest flow and ensure smooth communication during service.
- Monitor table availability and restaurant occupancy throughout the shift, providing guests with realistic waiting times and appropriate updates during busy service periods.
- Answer telephone calls and respond to reservation enquiries, amendments, cancellations, and special requests professionally and accurately in accordance with established procedures.
- Handle initial guest feedback or concerns with professionalism, tact, and discretion, taking appropriate action or escalating matters to the restaurant supervisor or manager when required.
- Maintain the reception, entrance, menus, reservation records, and hostess desk in a clean, organized, and presentable condition that reflects luxury hospitality standards.
- Support the Food & Beverage team with special arrangements, celebrations, VIP requirements, and group reservations, ensuring relevant details are communicated before guest arrival.
- Bid farewell to departing guests in a courteous and genuine manner, seeking feedback where appropriate and ensuring the dining experience concludes on a positive note.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent a Diploma in Hospitality, Hotel Management, Food & Beverage Service, or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum 1â€2 years of relevant experience as a Hostess or in a guest-facing role, preferably within a five-star hotel, luxury resort, or upscale restaurant environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a confident and professional manner when interacting with guests from diverse nationalities and cultural backgrounds.
- Good knowledge of restaurant reservations, seating arrangements, guest handling, and basic Food & Beverage operations experience with restaurant reservation systems is an advantage.
- Professional appearance with excellent grooming standards, etiquette, attention to detail, and a warm guest-focused personality suited to a luxury hospitality environment.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities, with the flexibility to work under pressure during busy service periods and across shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
