Description:

The Hygienist is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of food safety, hygiene, and sanitation across catering operations. The role involves monitoring compliance with local health regulations, company policies, and international food safety standards to ensure safe food handling and a clean working environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and enforce food safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards across kitchens, food preparation, storage, and service areas.
  • Conduct regular hygiene inspections and audits in accordance with HACCP, ISO 22000, or company standards.
  • Ensure compliance with local municipality and health authority regulations.
  • Identify non-conformities and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Provide hygiene and food safety training to kitchen and service staff.
  • Maintain hygiene records, inspection reports, temperature logs, and sanitation checklists.
  • Oversee personal hygiene practices of staff, including uniform, grooming, and hand hygiene.
  • Ensure proper waste management, pest control coordination, and cleaning schedules.
  • Investigate food safety incidents or customer complaints and recommend improvements.
  • Support management during external audits and inspections.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Diploma or certification in Food Safety, Hygiene, Hospitality, or a related field.
  • HACCP certification is mandatory; ISO 22000 knowledge is an advantage.
  • Minimum 25 years of experience as a Hygienist or Food Safety Officer in the catering or hospitality industry.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and hygiene best practices.
  • Experience working with high-volume catering operations is preferred.

  • Strong attention to detail and observational skills.
  • Good communication and training skills.
  • Ability to conduct audits and prepare clear reports.
  • Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and sanitation procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple sites if required.
