Job Overview:
The Ice-Skating Coach is responsible for developing the fundamental skating skills of beginner and intermediate-level skaters, primarily within levels F1–F8. The role focuses on building strong technical foundations through structured coaching, progressive skill development, consistent instruction, and positive encouragement. The coach will support skaters in achieving their developmental milestones while fostering confidence, discipline, and a lifelong passion for the sport.
Job Responsibilities:
On-Ice Coaching (Adults and Children):
- Instruct beginners on basic skating techniques
- Deliver structured group lessons for skaters in Fundamentals Levels F1–F8
- Provide private lessons to beginner-level children and adults
- Adapt teaching styles to suit a range of ages and learning styles
- Follow a set curriculum and ensure safe, fun, and goal-driven sessions
- Assist with evaluations and level testing, ensuring consistency across skaters
- Foster a positive and supportive environment for skaters, encouraging confidence and enjoyment while learning the basics
Program Support
- Communicate regularly with parents and skaters about progress and next steps
- Help maintain a positive and inclusive atmosphere during classes and events
- Assist in keeping records up to date for evaluations, attendance, and student feed
- Help during school group visits and rink orientation for new skaters
Camps & Events
- Support during seasonal camps by coaching F1-F8 skaters in both group and private settings
- Support beginner skaters during on-ice activities, games, and fun drills
- Help with skater sign-in/out, group management, and off-ice transitions during camp days
- Provide encouragement and guidance to help new skaters feel comfortable and confident
- Support in preparing skaters for showcases, galas and competitions
Qualification and Requirements:
- Preferably bachelor's degree or relevant training and qualification related to Ice Skating (ISU)
- At least 2-4 years proven relevant experience as a Skating Coach with a focus on both basic and competitive levels
- Strong technical knowledge of figure skating techniques, choreography, and competition rules
- Ability to work with skaters of all ages and skill levels, fostering an environment of motivation and development.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and motivational skills.
- Commitment to continued professional development and staying up to date on the latest figure skating trends and practices.
