Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled IGW Level 2 Network Engineer to support the operations, monitoring, and troubleshooting of large-scale Service Provider (SP) Internet Gateway (IGW) and Core Routing & Switching (R&S) networks.
This role operates in a 24x7 shift-based Network Operations Center (NOC) environment and requires strong hands-on technical expertise, operational discipline, and effective communication skills to maintain high availability and performance of mission-critical network services.
Key Responsibilities
Network Operations & Support
- Provide Level 2 operational support for IGW and core network infrastructure in a 24x7 rotational shift environment.
- Monitor network health, availability, capacity, and performance using Network Monitoring & Performance Management tools.
- Perform advanced troubleshooting and incident resolution for routing, MPLS, and IGW-related issues.
- Act as the escalation point for Level 1 engineers and coordinate with Level 3 teams and vendors when required.
- Ensure timely incident response, root cause analysis (RCA), and resolution within SLA targets.
Cisco Platforms & Technologies
Operate and support Cisco Service Provider and Data Center platforms, including:
- Cisco NCS 5500
- Cisco ASR 9000 / ASR 1000
- Cisco Nexus 9000
- Cisco ACI
Responsibilities include:
- Configuration, validation, and troubleshooting of production network devices.
- Supporting upgrades, patches, and platform migrations.
- Ensuring stability and performance optimization of deployed infrastructure.
Routing & MPLS Operations
- Support and troubleshoot dynamic routing protocols:
- BGP
- OSPF
- IS-IS
- Operate and manage MPLS services, including:
- MP-BGP
- L2VPN / L3VPN
- Inter-AS connectivity
- QoS policies and traffic engineering
- Maintain stable and optimized traffic flow across IGW and core networks.
- Investigate and resolve routing convergence, flapping, or performance issues.
Availability, Change & Operational Support
- Support network availability management and proactive monitoring.
- Participate in change implementation, migrations, and scheduled maintenance activities.
- Conduct risk assessment and validation before and after changes.
- Ensure compliance with operational procedures and change management processes.
- Contribute to documentation updates and operational runbooks.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications, IT, or equivalent practical experience.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in large-scale Service Provider or enterprise core networks.
- Strong practical experience in:
- Routing & Switching
- MPLS environments
- Internet Gateway (IGW) operations
- Experience working in a 24x7 NOC or operational environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Skills
- Experience performing network assessments and implementing infrastructure changes.
- Hands-on experience with Network Performance Management (NPM) tools.
- Experience in large-scale migrations and operational support environments.
- CCNP (Enterprise or Service Provider) certification preferred.
- ITIL knowledge is an advantage.
