Role Overview We are looking for an experienced Import Manager to join our commercial team. Reporting directly to the Commercial Head, the Import Manager will oversee the end-to-end importation process, ensuring products are sourced, imported, and delivered on time to meet the retail needs of the business. This role requires expertise in international trade, logistics, supplier management, and customs compliance to support a seamless retail operation.
Key Responsibilities
Import Operations Management: Oversee the entire import process from sourcing products internationally to ensure their timely delivery to the retail network, ensuring cost-efficiency and accuracy.
Supplier & Vendor Relationships: Build and maintain strong relationships with international suppliers, freight forwarders, and customs brokers, negotiating favorable terms, pricing, and delivery schedules.
Customs Compliance: Ensure all imported goods comply with applicable customs regulations and manage import documentation (tariffs, duties, taxes) to avoid delays or penalties.
Inventory & Demand Coordination: Collaborate with the supply chain and retail teams to ensure proper inventory levels, minimizing stockouts and overstocking by aligning import schedules with demand forecasts.
Logistics & Shipping Coordination: Oversee logistics, ensuring that imported goods are delivered on time to meet retail schedules and product availability.
Budget & Cost Control: Monitor and manage the import budget, identifying opportunities for cost savings without compromising quality or availability of goods.
Reporting & Documentation: Maintain accurate records and documentation for all imports. Provide detailed reports on import activities, costs, and product availability to the Commercial Head and senior management.
Market & Trade Policy Monitoring: Stay informed on changes in global trade regulations, customs policies, and international market trends that may impact the import process.
Collaboration Across Departments: Work closely with purchasing, marketing, and retail teams to ensure that the product supply aligns with retail strategies and promotional calendars.
Requirements
Education: Bachelor&aposs degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, International Trade, or a related field.
Experience: 5+ years of experience in import/export management, preferably within the retail sector.
Industry Knowledge: A strong understanding of international logistics, customs regulations, and the dynamics of the retail industry.
Skills:
Strong negotiation, leadership, and communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple shipments and deadlines efficiently.
Proficiency in using supply chain management software and Microsoft Office.
Analytical skills to assess import data and make informed decisions for the business.
