Industrial Design Lecturer

Job Profile:

The Faculty of Design invites applications for the position of Lecturer in Industrial Design with a focus on Material Engineering, Sustainability, and Sustainable Manufacturing. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching and academic development within the Faculty, with particular emphasis on environmentally and social responsible product development, product lifecycle assessment and resource efficient production systems.

The position requires a strong professional background in product design, industrial design, or a closely related discipline within the manufacturing sector, combined with a clear commitment to sustainable material use and lifecycle thinking.

Job Description:

1. Developing and teaching and supervision of undergraduate courses in Industrial Design, particularly in the areas of materials, manufacturing processes, and sustainable product development.

2. Developing, teaching and supervision projects related to Sustainable Manufacturing and resource conscious design strategies in within our research clusters.

3. Developing and teaching and supervision of postgraduate courses in Industrial Design, particularly in the areas of Future Literacy, interdisciplinary research topics with system thinking, sustainability and circular economy and supporting the master thesis courses.

4. Integrate Material Engineering principles into design education, bridging technical feasibility with design practice.

5. Support in the development of interaction content in the Design Departments.

6. Independent assumption of tasks such as admission tests, academies and semester exhibitions are required.

7. Apply and teach Product Lifecycle Assessment (LCA) methodologies within the product development process.

8. Contribute to curriculum development, particularly in sustainability-related design education.

9. Support interdisciplinary collaboration with other design and engineering disciplines.

Qualifications:

Required

1. 2 years of experience teaching in a higher education environment (international accreditation standards - European Bologna style)

2. Minimum 7 years of professional experience in product design, industrial design, or a related manufacturing-focused discipline.

3. Demonstrated expertise in Material Engineering and Sustainable Manufacturing.

4. Advanced knowledge of Product Lifecycle Assessment (LCA) and its application in product development.

5. Proven ability to integrate technical knowledge with design methodology based on global sustainability development goals (SDG).

Education and language:

1. Master's degree (MA, MSc, or MEng) or higher in Industrial Design, Product Design, Design Engineering, Material Engineering or a closely related field.

2. Fluent in English.

Technical Skills:

1. Advanced skills in prototyping.

2. Advanced skills in sketching and visualization in 2D and 3D.

3. Knowledge of common computer programs for visual communication, product design or any technical related field
