Job Purpose
The Infrastructure Support Specialist - Linux Patching will be responsible for ensuring the security, stability, and compliance of enterprise Linux systems through timely patching and maintenance. The role involves coordinating patching cycles, troubleshooting post-patch issues, and collaborating with DBAs and application teams to minimize downtime. A working knowledge of Oracle Database environments on Linux is essential.
Relevant Certification
- Certifications such as RHCSA/RHCE, Oracle
- Certified Associate (OCA), or Linux Foundation
- Certified Engineer (LFCE).
8+ years of experience at a relevant technical position in large organizations
Banking background
Excellent technical knowledge and hands on in the following key areas:
- Experience in cloud and hybrid environments with exposure and working knowledge on OCP, OCI and other virtualization platforms.
- Construct patching plans and reports to oversee patching status.
- Good level of experience of CLI & troubleshooting skills
- Hands on knowledge on servers working in PR-DR datacenters.
- Good understanding on Linux vulnerability assessment report and mitigation.
- Working knowledge and best practices of Oracle database on Linux from patching perspective.
- Plan, schedule, and execute Linux OS patching (RHEL, Oracle Linux) across production and non-production environments.
- Use enterprise patch management tools (e.g., Red Hat Satellite, Ansible, Oracle Enterprise Manager) to automate and monitor patch deployment.
- Coordinate quarterly and emergency patch cycles, ensuring minimal business impact and adherence to change management processes (ITIL).
- Perform pre- and post-patching validation, including system health checks, service status, and connectivity verification.
- Collaborate with Oracle DBAs to patch and maintain servers hosting Oracle Database (standalone or RAC).
- Support patching of Oracle Grid Infrastructure and ensure compatibility between OS and DB patch levels.
- Maintain accurate patch compliance reports, exceptions, and rollback documentation.
- Troubleshoot and resolve OS-level or database-related issues arising from patching.
- Participate in vulnerability remediation efforts based on security scan findings (e.g. Tenable)
- Contribute to automation and process improvements in patch management.
- Support incident response related to patching, kernel upgrades, and system security.
