As an IP Lawyer, you will advise on and manage intellectual property matters with both regional and European interfaces. You will provide strategic counsel to corporate clients on global IP portfolios, with particular expertise in EU trademark and design systems and enforcement frameworks.
You will collaborate with internal teams, external counsel, government bodies, and clients to ensure seamless protection and defense of intellectual property rights.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage trademark and design filings in the EU (EUIPO) and coordinate with UAE/GCC filings.
- Advise on EU trademark oppositions, cancellations, appeals, and enforcement strategies.
- Provide strategic counsel on patent, copyright, trade secret, and IP licensing matters (including franchising/tech agreements).
- Draft, review, and negotiate licensing, IP transfer, coexistence, and settlement agreements.
- Conduct IP due diligence for transactions, investment, and corporate restructuring.
- Coordinate with local attorneys in UAE/GCC and external counsel in EU on cross-jurisdictional matters.
- Monitor and advise on IP law developments in the EU and GCC.
- Manage challenging IP enforcement and anti-counterfeiting actions.
- Supervise junior lawyers and support business development initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degree from a recognised common-law jurisdiction.
- Admission to practice in at least one jurisdiction (US/EU/other) preferable.
- Minimum 58+ years experience in intellectual property law, with significant EU practice experience (EUIPO, EUTM, EU design systems, etc.).
- Strong working knowledge of EU IP systems (EU trademarks, design rights, oppositions/appeals).
- Experience with international portfolio management and cross-border IP strategies.
- Commercial mindset with excellent drafting and negotiation skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a multi-jurisdictional, multi-disciplinary environment.
Preferred Skills
- Prior experience in or with EU law firms and/or in-house EU IP teams.
- Experience navigating licensing, technology transfer, and data/privacy interactions.
- Exposure to patent prosecution or coordination with patent attorneys.
- Fluency in English; additional European languages (e.g., French, German) advantageous.
- Knowledge of UAE and GCC IP frameworks desirable.
