Job Description


Role Objective:

The Investment Analyst will provide analytical and operational support in effective management of the Bank's investment portfolio. The jobholder will support in analyzing market opportunities to make investments through equity companies, in line with the strategic investment plans. The incumbent will assist in due diligence of prevailing and new partners, and of synergy opportunities to increase sales of Doha Bank.

Detailed Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and report on potential fund investment opportunities, in line with Doha Bank's investment strategy.
  • Provide adequate analytical and operational support in maximizing expected returns from equity investments by ensuring that the Bank's investments are consistent with the Bank's investment aims/expected returns and acceptable risks.
  • Support in execution of investments in appropriate funds which match the Bank's investment profile, providing value for money.
  • Provide necessary support to the Portfolio Manager Equity/Region in managing investment expenses efficiently, improving the portfolio managers accountability and asset transparency.
  • Generate deal-flow and project pipeline against investment strategy, risk budget and other investment criteria on an ongoing basis to ensure optimal and timely investment and performance.
  • Perform timely, accurate and efficient preparation and execution of transactions in terms of quality control, and transfer of funds.
  • Perform deal transactions, and share necessary accounting/administration information to finance team in the light of preparation of the accounts.
  • Liaise with the Treasury & Settlement Operations function for settlement of deals, post obtaining confirmation on the deals.
  • Provide necessary support in daily verification and reconciliation of outstanding items related to Doha Bank NOSTRO accounts against the manual/ system posting carried out.
  • Gather and share knowledge to the team, and/or department on worldwide best market practices and, global/ local trends in the targeted sectors.
  • Adhere to/ follow audit, compliance and procedural control measures set by the management.
  • Promptly respond and/or escalate queries raised by the respective stakeholders to the reporting authority.
  • Prepare up-to-date periodic/ ad-hoc reports on activities within the unit, as directed by the reporting authorities.
  • Maintain highest standards of confidentiality, professional conduct, ethics and integrity in the provision of services in the section.
  • Provide timely and accurate information to the external and internal auditors and the Compliance function as directed by the Section Head, in relation to investments.
  • Prepare quarterly performance assessments of the brokers operating in different financial markets across different industry/ sector and provide recommendations to the reporting authorities.
  • Liaise with the relevant stakeholders for obtaining input on investment opportunities in alternative assets for new investment opportunities for maintaining an investment pipeline and managing the investment program for the Bank.
  • Execute financial, commercial, risk, tax and legal due diligences for evaluation purpose on existing investments and recommend appropriate course of action.
  • Assist in preparing investment proposals, thereby furthering the consent by the relevant Committees.
  • Prepare presentations on products for internal/external usage, and, maintain MIS pertaining to profitability/ revenue, in accordance with regulatory requirements.

Maintain highest standards of professional conduct, ethics and integrity in the provision of services in the function by complying with the existing code of ethics and professional standards.

Qualifications

  • University graduate with a degree in Business or Banking or Finance or Economics or any other related discipline.
  • Master's degree in management any other related discipline will be an added advantage.
  • CFA or equivalent qualification would be useful

Experience:

  • 06-10 years of total experience in financial services/banking industry, entailing responsibilities pertaining to the specific area of discipline.
  • Experience in equity investments in banking industry.

Core Skills:

  • Understand the key approaches to investment allocation for bond, equity and balanced portfolios including asset class, geographical area, currency etc.
  • Understand the main aims and investment characteristics of equity portfolio management strategies
  • Understand how portfolio risk and return are evaluated including holding period return, total returns and its components standard deviation, volatility etc.
  • Knowledge of the core principles for risk mitigation including correlation, diversification, active and passive strategies, hedging and immunization
  • Structuring, negotiating and monitoring equity deals
  • Financial modelling
  • Ability to identify trading opportunities
  • Ability to analyze the client's profile and risk appetite
  • Knowledge of brokerage operations
  • Ability to execute trade orders and follow up on completion
  • Ability to prepare broker's performance reports
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite
  • Logical and analytical skills
  • Business writing skills
