Job Description

About the Role

The IVMS Specialist manages the full lifecycle of UNIMAC's In Vehicle Monitoring Systems (IVMS), ensuring telemetry accuracy, operational efficiency, and system integrity across all fleet and heavy equipment assets. This role requires strong technical capabilities in telematics hardware, CAN Bus protocols, data integrity validation, sensor calibration, and integration with SAP maintenance and fuel modules.

Responsibilities

  • IVMS System Monitoring & Real-Time Operations
  • Monitor equipment telemetry including GPS position, CAN Bus parameters, harsh events, fuel level changes, and geofence adherence.
  • Perform diagnostics on reporting anomalies, latency spikes, missing heartbeat signals, and device offline incidents.
  • Review daily dashboards and escalate abnormalities to PMV, HSE, and operations teams.

  • Hardware, Sensors & Telemetry Engineering
  • Lead installation, troubleshooting, and calibration of IVMS devices, fuel sensors, RFID modules, immobilizers, PTO sensors, and accelerometers.
  • Validate wiring integrity, ground connection quality, voltage consistency, and sensor calibration curves.
  • Conduct firmware upgrades, bench tests, and technical acceptance for newly deployed hardware.
  • Support in relocation of IVMS hardware between vehicles.

  • Data Integration & SAP Connectivity
  • Ensure telemetry data flows into SAP for preventive maintenance triggers, mileage/hour readings, and consumption analytics.
  • Maintain mapping tables between SAP asset codes and IVMS device IDs.
  • Reconcile telemetry readings against physical inspections and monthly inventory.
  • Check integration logs and ensure error handling and re-processing.

  • Compliance, Safety & Investigations
  • Support safety incident analysis with route playback, harsh event logs, speed profiles, and engine diagnostics.
  • Maintain compliance reports for geofencing, speed limits, idling thresholds, and utilization KPIs.

  • Stakeholder & Vendor Management
  • Coordinate onsite access permits for vendor technicians and oversee installation quality.
  • Evaluate new technologies, trial devices, and prepare technical comparison matrices.
  • Research and recommend new hardware to enhance monitoring efficiency.

  • Reporting & Analytics
  • Create daily, weekly, and monthly analytical reports covering utilization, idle cost, exception alerts, risk scoring, and route deviations.
  • Maintain dashboards and present insights to management for operational improvements.

  • Low Current System Support
  • Support the installation of new cabling or low current systems.
  • Design and record network topology with recommended practices.
  • Configure and install low current systems as and where needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in IT, Electronics, Mechatronics, Telecommunication Engineering, or any other relevant specialization.
  • Minimum 3–7 years of hands on experience with IVMS, telematics, GPS, or fleet monitoring systems.
  • Deep understanding of CAN Bus, J1939, OBD II, digital/analog sensor logic, and communication protocols.
  • Exposure to ERP and fleet management systems such as SAP PM, and fuel consumption modules is preferred.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with electrical systems, relay logic, and low voltage wiring.

Required Skills

  • Technical Expertise in telematics engineering, data analytics, and system diagnostics.
  • Analytical Thinking for interpreting telemetry abnormalities and fleet efficiency indicators.
  • Vendor Management for coordinating installations, trials, and service escalations.
  • Communication & Reporting Excellence for producing detailed dashboards and operational insights.
  • Problem Solving under pressure during system outages or data inconsistencies.

Preferred Skills

  • IVMS uptime and heartbeat reliability.
  • Data accuracy across GPS, fuel, engine hours, and mileage streams.
  • Reduction in idling, misuse, and unsafe driving events.
  • Installation progress against deployment timelines.
  • Quality and timeliness of reports.
  • Successful integration with SAP workflows.
