Core Responsibilities
- Precision Press Operation: Operate the CNC-controlled hydraulic JCO forming press to step-bend steel plates into a J shape, then C shape, and finally an O shape.
- Dimensional Accuracy: Monitor and adjust the forming sequence (bending steps) to ensure the open-seam pipe meets strict tolerances for Out-of-Roundness (OOR) and Edge Misalignment before tack welding.
- Tooling Setup: Select and install the correct forming dies (upper and lower) based on the pipe diameter and wall thickness specified in the production order.
- Machine Monitoring: Perform daily pre-operational checks on high-pressure hydraulic systems, lubrication points, and laser-based measurement sensors.
- Material Handling: Coordinate with EOT crane operators for the precise positioning of heavy steel plates on the press entry table.
- Troubleshooting: Identify and report hydraulic leaks, sensor malfunctions, or abnormal noises to the maintenance team to prevent catastrophic downtime.
Technical Skill Set
- CNC & PLC Proficiency: Experience operating HMI (Human Machine Interface) panels from reputed manufacturers.
- Blueprint Reading: Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, Pipe Specs, and forming charts.
- Measurement Tools: Expert use of large-diameter callipers, templates, and O gauges to verify the pipe shape after forming.
- Hydraulics Knowledge: Basic understanding of high-pressure hydraulic circuits and proportional valves.
Key Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or ITI (Industrial Training Institute) in Mechanical/Fitter trade. Technical diplomas are preferred for lead operator roles.
- Experience: 3–10 years of hands-on experience specifically on a JCO or UOE forming press.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to work in a heavy industrial environment, often involving high heat, noise, and 12-hour rotational shifts.
Preferred Attributes
- API Quality Awareness: Understanding the impact of over-forming or under-forming on the final API 5L grade properties of the steel.
- Safety First: Mastery of Lock-Out Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures and overhead crane signalling safety.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to detect minute plate surface defects or die marks that could cause rejection by Saudi Aramco or TPI (Third Party Inspection) auditors.
Employer Specific Expectations
- Familiarity with Saudi Aramco's strict requirements for end-squaring and edge-milling alignment.
- Proficiency with automated data logging where forming pressures for every step are recorded digitally for the pipe's
- Focus on maximizing pipes per hour (throughput) while maintaining ISO quality standards.
