An HVAC BIM Engineer creates, coordinates, and manages 3D models for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems using software like Revit, Navisworks, and AutoCAD. Key duties include performing clash detection, developing LOD 300-400 models, and producing shop drawings to ensure compliance with ASHRAE/SMACNA standards, often requiring a bachelor's in mechanical engineering and 1 – 4+ years of experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • BIM Modeling: Develop detailed 3D HVAC models (ductwork, piping, equipment) from 2D designs or concepts.
  • Coordination & Clash Detection: Identify and resolve interferences between HVAC systems and other trades (structural, electrical) using Navisworks.
  • Documentation: Generate HVAC shop drawings, fabrication models, and As-Built drawings.
  • Design & Compliance: Ensure models adhere to KSA codes, industry standards (ASHRAE, SMACNA), and project specifications.
  • Collaboration: Work with architects, engineers, and contractors to integrate HVAC designs.
  • Technical Support: Participate in constructability reviews, manage BOM (Bill of Quantities), and mentor junior modelers.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • Software Proficiency: Expert-level knowledge of Autodesk Revit MEP and Navisworks Manage.
  • Experience: 1 – 4+ years of experience in MEP modeling and shop drawing production.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of HVAC design principles, building systems, and energy efficiency techniques.
