Job Description

Job Purpose:

The Junior Planning Engineer is responsible for assisting the Senior Planning Engineer in planning, monitoring, and controlling project activities to support timely and cost-effective project execution. The role involves maintaining project schedules, monitoring engineering, procurement, and construction progress, collecting project data, preparing reports, and supporting project controls activities. The Junior Planning Engineer works under the guidance of the Senior Planning Engineer to ensure accurate project reporting and effective schedule management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Senior Planning Engineer in preparing, updating, and monitoring project schedules using Primavera P6.
  • Update project schedules with progress information received from engineering, procurement, and construction teams.
  • Review project data for completeness and accuracy and maintain proper schedule logic and activity relationships.
  • Monitor project progress against approved baseline schedules and highlight potential delays or schedule deviations to the Senior Planning Engineer.
  • Coordinate with engineering, procurement, site execution, QA/QC, and accounting departments to collect and verify project information.
  • Assist in tracking manpower, materials, plant, and equipment utilization.
  • Support cost control activities by maintaining project cost records, tracking expenditures, and reporting balance quantities where required.
  • Maintain project logs, including wastage records, RFIs, shop drawing status, procurement status, and other planning-related registers.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly progress reports, dashboards, productivity reports, and schedule updates for review by the Senior Planning Engineer.
  • Assist in preparing recovery schedules and look-ahead programs under the guidance of the Senior Planning Engineer.
  • Support the preparation of management reports and presentations.
  • Ensure planning documents and reports are maintained in accordance with company procedures.
  • Perform any other planning and project control duties assigned by the Senior Planning Engineer or Planning Manager.

Key Performance Indicators:

  • Accuracy of project schedule updates and planning data.
  • Timely submission of weekly and monthly reports.
  • Accuracy and completeness of project records and planning documentation.
  • Effectiveness in identifying potential schedule risks and reporting them promptly.
  • Quality and accuracy of progress reporting.
  • Coordination efficiency with internal departments and site teams.
  • Compliance with company planning procedures and reporting standards.

Minimum Qualification:

Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.

Minimum Experience:

  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in planning, scheduling, or project controls within the contracting or construction industry.
  • Working knowledge of Primavera P6 and Microsoft Excel.
  • Basic understanding of project planning, scheduling principles, and construction methodologies.
  • Good analytical, communication, and coordination skills.
