About the Knowledge team

The Tamimi Knowledge department is a critical component of the firm's strategy to enhance efficiency, improve quality, and drive client satisfaction whilst staying ahead of innovative emerging technologies. This team is instrumental in creating dynamic knowledge assets, managing the firm's knowledge resources, optimising processes, and fostering a culture of continuous sharing and innovation.

Role Overview

The Knowledge Advisor will provide research, data management, and administrative support to the Knowledge department, working under the close guidance of the Knowledge & Innovation Manager and senior Knowledge team members. This entry-level position is designed for a candidate eager to build a career in legal knowledge management, with strong research instincts, a commitment to data accuracy, and a willingness to learn in a fast-paced, multi-jurisdictional environment.

The role is primarily one of execution and support: conducting legal and regulatory research, maintaining and updating the firm's knowledge dashboards, assisting with content development, and contributing to the day-to-day operations of the Knowledge team. The successful candidate will be supported through structured on-the-job training and will develop practical expertise in legal research tools, knowledge management platforms, and document management systems.

The ideal candidate will have a genuine interest in legal technology and knowledge management as a professional discipline, and will be eager to develop within a structured and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities will be carried out under the direction and oversight of the Knowledge Operations team.

Research & Information Management:

  • Assist in conducting legal and regulatory research across multiple jurisdictions, using online legal databases in both Arabic and English (including tools such as Westlaw, LexisNexis, Qistas, and Mohamoon).
  • Record, categorise, and enter research findings accurately into the firm's knowledge management systems.
  • Assist in liaising with government authorities and regulatory bodies to obtain legislation, gazette notices, and official guidance.
  • Research, identify, and compile current awareness materials for distribution to lawyers and practice groups.

Knowledge Systems & Data Management:

  • Support the maintenance and development of the firm's Knowledge Bank.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining taxonomies, folder structures, and metadata frameworks for the knowledge base, using the firm's designated platforms.
  • Perform routine and high-volume data entry, record updates, and quality assurance checks to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of stored information across all knowledge platforms.
  • Support updates to the firm's intranet, information databases, and knowledge management systems, including ensuring data currency and resolving basic data integrity issues under guidance.
  • Assist in monitoring and maintaining the firm's subscriptions to legal research databases and knowledge resources, liaising with suppliers as directed.

Content Development & Distribution:

  • Assist in developing the fortnightly Knowledge Management newsletter and other client-facing publications, including drafting, editing, and formatting.

Training & Stakeholder Support:

  • Assist with the preparation and delivery of training sessions on knowledge systems and research tools for internal users.
  • Support collaborative projects with the Tamimi Academy team and other internal stakeholders as directed.
  • Contribute to maintaining positive working relationships with lawyers and colleagues across the firm's offices.

Document Automation Support:

  • Assist in identifying and reviewing English and Arabic legal documents suitable for automation, working under the guidance of senior team members and using the firm's designated document automation tools.

Qualifications

Essential one of the following:

  • A degree in law, library science, information management, or a related discipline; or
  • A paralegal qualification combined with demonstrable research or information management experience; or
  • Equivalent academic preparation in a research-intensive discipline, with a demonstrable aptitude for legal or regulatory research.

Desirable:

  • A postgraduate or professional qualification in library science, knowledge management, or information science.
  • Professional certifications such as those offered by CILIP (Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals) or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with legal research certification programmes or legal technology platforms.

Experience

Essential:

  • 13 years of experience in a law firm, law library, legal research organisation, or information management environment. Final-year students or recent graduates with relevant internship or placement experience are welcome to apply.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct structured research and present findings clearly and accurately, whether through academic, internship, or early professional experience.
  • Experience performing high-volume, accurate data entry or records management in any professional or academic context.

Desirable:

  • Exposure to legal research databases (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis, Qistas, and Mohamoon) in an academic or professional setting.
  • Familiarity with document management or knowledge management systems (e.g., SharePoint, NetDocuments, iManage).
  • Any exposure to document automation tools (e.g., Contract Express, HotDocs, Document Drafter) is an advantage.
  • Prior experience in the MENA legal services market.

Skills

Technical Skills:

  • Solid online research skills, including the ability to locate, evaluate, and synthesise information from legal and regulatory sources in both English and Arabic.
  • Working proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint); advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, data validation) are an advantage.
  • Basic familiarity with or willingness to rapidly learn knowledge management and document management platforms (e.g., SharePoint, iManage).
  • Comfort with data entry, data validation, and database management tasks.
