The LEM Specialist provides professional service and support for laboratory research equipment by performing field service reactive maintenance repairs, preventive maintenance, and calibrations. He/she will be a mentor to junior maintenance personnel, and will prepare, plan and complete user maintenance and equipment operation training sessions. The LEM Specialist will deliver the highest level of service to maximize equipment uptime while minimizing maintenance costs. He/she will focus in the maintenance of cooling systems, growth chambers, autoclaves, and glass washers. He/she will work within guidelines established by the LEM head and Laboratory Equipment Maintenance Leads, and will follow established standard operating procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform reactive and preventive maintenance on laboratory research equipment, including cooling systems, growth chambers, autoclaves, and glass washers.
- Troubleshoot and repair equipment issues promptly to maximize uptime and reduce maintenance costs.
- Coordinate maintenance schedules with end-users to ensure minimal disruption to research activities.
- Mentor junior technicians and support team development through knowledge sharing and training.
- Conduct user training sessions on equipment operation and preventive maintenance best practices.
- Communicate effectively with vendors and manufacturers to obtain technical support, spare parts, and training.
- Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities, communications, and equipment status.
- Ensure compliance with HSE and institutional safety policies, maintaining safe work habits at all times.
- Collaborate with maintenance leads and team members to improve workflows, increase automation, and enhance service levels.
- Support spare-parts management by identifying needs, optimizing inventory, and assisting in the ordering process.
Requirements
- Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVACR) or related field
- Minimum two (5) years of work experience in maintaining refrigeration equipment, using maintenance reporting systems, and practicing customer focus techniques
- Experience in maintaining equipment from a KAUST preferred manufacturer: Buchi, CLF Plant Climatics, Systec, GE, Labconco, Liebherr, Smeg, Panasonic, Peak, Percival, and Thermo-Fisher is desirable
- Experience with other major manufacturers will be considered
- Experience maintaining equipment from one or more of the following technologies: Ultra-low temperature freezers, glassware washers, heat exchangers, press machines, chillers, heaters and ovens.
- Strong planning and organizational skills
