In this strategic and hands-on role, you will lead the design and execution of enterprise-grade data governance frameworks within a globally distributed, remote-first environment. You will shape policies, processes, and automation tooling to ensure secure, compliant, and high-quality data access across a modern data mesh architecture. Working at the intersection of engineering, compliance, and analytics, you'll drive best practices in data security, quality monitoring, and access management. Accountabilities
- Define, implement, and continuously improve data governance policies, standards, and controls aligned with regulatory frameworks such as GDPR, DPA, and ISO standards.
- Design, develop, and maintain Python-based automation tooling to support data mesh operations, including data labeling, quality metrics, monitoring, and access governance.
- Deploy, manage, and optimize governance-related services, ensuring performance, scalability, and security best practices.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to enable secure, democratized access to data originating from diverse internal and external sources.
- Utilize and integrate open-source data governance technologies such as Trino, Ranger, and related ecosystem tools.
- Promote engineering excellence, documentation standards, and operational best practices across teams.
- Mentor and coach engineers where applicable, contributing to career development and knowledge sharing.
Requirements
- Undergraduate degree in a technical discipline or a compelling alternative career path demonstrating strong technical expertise.
- Proven experience in data governance, data quality management, security controls, and compliance-driven environments.
- Strong programming skills in Python and solid experience with SQL for data manipulation and analysis.
- Familiarity with modern data mesh architectures and governance tooling; experience with Airbyte, Ranger, Superset, Temporal, or Trino is a plus.
- Performance engineering and security experience considered advantageous.
- Exceptional written and spoken English communication skills with the ability to present complex concepts clearly.
- Demonstrated track record of exceeding expectations, strong academic performance, and results-oriented mindset.
- Ability to travel internationally twice per year for team events lasting up to two weeks.
