Electrical Engineer Job Description

Position Overview:

The Electrical Engineer is responsible for supervising, executing, and coordinating all electrical works on construction and fit-out projects. The role ensures that electrical systems are installed in compliance with approved drawings, technical specifications, safety regulations, and project timelines. The Electrical Engineer reports directly to the Project Manager / Engineering Manager and works closely with other disciplines to achieve project objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Planning & Execution

  • Supervise and execute electrical installations including power, lighting, low current systems, and earthing.
  • Review electrical shop drawings, specifications, and BOQs to ensure correct implementation.
  • Coordinate electrical activities with mechanical, architectural, and structural teams.
  • Prepare work schedules and monitor execution against the project timeline.

Site Supervision

  • Supervise electricians, technicians, and subcontractors on site.
  • Assign daily tasks and ensure work is completed efficiently and safely.
  • Provide technical guidance and resolve on-site electrical issues.

Quality Control

  • Inspect electrical installations to ensure compliance with approved drawings and standards.
  • Conduct and witness testing and commissioning of electrical systems.
  • Identify and rectify defects, non-conformities, and installation errors.
  • Maintain inspection records and quality reports.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure all electrical works comply with safety standards, codes, and site safety policies.
  • Implement safe working practices and conduct toolbox talks when required.
  • Identify electrical hazards and take corrective actions.

Coordination & Communication

  • Attend coordination and site meetings to report progress and technical issues.
  • Liaise with consultants and clients during inspections and approvals.
  • Coordinate material delivery and availability with procurement and store teams.

Progress & Reporting

  • Monitor daily site progress and manpower productivity.
  • Prepare daily and weekly progress reports for management.
  • Report delays, technical challenges, and material shortages with proposed solutions.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 35 years of experience in electrical works within construction or MEP projects.

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of power distribution, lighting systems, low current systems (Fire Alarm, Data, CCTV, Access Control).
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, single line diagrams, and specifications.
  • Knowledge of testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting procedures.

Soft Skills

  • Strong communication and coordination skills.
  • Ability to manage site teams and work under pressure.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

Software Skills

  • Proficient in MS Office.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and electrical documentation is an advantage.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Electrical works completed on schedule and within quality standards.
  • Compliance with safety regulations.
  • Effective coordination with project stakeholders.
  • Reduced rework and site issues
