Lead Offshore Methods Engineer

  • Location: Doha, Qatar
  • 1 Year Contract

The Lead Offshore Methods Engineer is accountable for the technical leadership, integrity, and delivery of offshore and subsea installation methodologies across projects and bids. The role ensures that all offshore methods engineering activities are executed in compliance with contractual requirements, international standards, HSE regulations, budget, and schedule, while providing leadership and guidance to the methods engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Governance

  • Lead and coordinate all offshore methods engineering activities for assigned projects and bids.
  • Ensure technical integrity, feasibility, and constructability of offshore and subsea installation methodologies.
  • Define engineering strategies, execution plans, and deliverable lists in line with contract and project requirements.
  • Review, validate, and approve method statements, calculations, manuals, procedures, and drawings.
  • Act as the technical authority for offshore installation methods, resolving complex engineering challenges.
  • Identify technical risks, constraints, and showstoppers, and define mitigation strategies.

Project & Interface Management

  • Develop and control the offshore methods engineering schedule, ensuring alignment with overall project milestones.
  • Ensure compliance with cost, schedule, and resource budgets for methods engineering activities.
  • Interface with Project Manager, Project Engineering Manager, Construction, Marine Operations, Procurement, and HSE.
  • Lead technical interfaces with Clients, Class Societies, and Vendors, including participation in technical reviews and audits.
  • Ensure that any technical decisions impacting contract scope, cost, or schedule are escalated and approved as required.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor, and coordinate Offshore Methods Engineers and specialists across disciplines.
  • Allocate engineering tasks, monitor progress, and ensure quality and consistency of team deliverables.
  • Support competency development, coaching, and performance feedback within the methods engineering team.
  • Ensure proper application of corporate engineering standards, tools, and best practices.

Offshore & Field Support

  • Provide technical leadership during yard, fabrication, and offshore installation campaigns.
  • Support offshore operations as Lead Field Engineer, when required.
  • Ensure offshore teams receive complete, clear, and approved engineering documentation and operational instructions.
  • Oversee verification of critical equipment, installation aids, and materials.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure full compliance with QA/QC procedures, HSE requirements, and Permit to Work systems.
  • Promote a strong safety-first culture within engineering and offshore operations.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable international standards, codes, and local regulations.
  • Lead and support the resolution of Engineering Non-Conformities (NCRs) during fabrication and offshore execution.

Bid & Tender Support

  • Lead offshore methods input for bids and tenders, including methodology definition, schedules, man-hours, and quantities.
  • Contribute to risk assessments, cost estimates, and execution strategies for competitive proposals.
  • Support value engineering and optimisation initiatives.

Scope of Expertise

  • Offshore structure installation (jackets, modules, manifolds, templates)
  • Offshore and subsea pipeline installation (rigid, flexible, umbilical's, risers)
  • Subsea installation engineering and vessel operations
  • Installation aids design and construction methodologies
  • Engineering governance, standards, and execution management

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering
  • Minimum 10 years experience in offshore and subsea installation engineering
  • Strong knowledge of engineering standards, codes, and regulations
  • Proven capability in engineering leadership and decision-making
  • Cost, schedule, and risk management
  • Engineering software and document management systems
